It is an opportunity to develop Sailfish into a recognised FOSS environment and rescue all those struggling to stay afloat in the waters of restricted systems like IOS, Android and even Cyanogenmod. There is competition for FOSS programmers resources from the likes of Replicant, Firefox OS and Ubuntu OS etc. Richard Richard

I'd say .. community driven development. As we can see on this page - where devs are answering and looking into certain things, implementing the "most wanted" for next updates.

(I don't see how I can edit the original posting). For me: 1) Battery life: 4 days+ out-of-the-box for Jolla vs. barely 2 days after time-consuming hacking and tuning sessions with an HTC Desire with LeeDrOiD ROM. Similar usage. 2) Control over what is running on my HW, no crap applications I cannot uninstall. 3) Company actually listening to users (this site!).

Is it official statement from Jolla or only a assumption? Why would you explain the need to register to use the store? Why can that be anonymous?

@m2: for statistics (the counting numbers of downloaded apps in the store) and for security - losing your phone someone could download/buy (yeah, ther is still no paying system) apps on your phone (with an account you can avoid that by logging off). And I don't know how they (Jolla) could send system update notifications to you if you don't have an account!?

@m2 it's an observation of official busines models:

google makes Android as a platform to deliver its services so Android is designed to lock you in google as much as possible
Jolla don't try to lock you in any service, eventually offers you third party services that you decide to use or not (see F-Secure annoucement)

@torcida: I am using SeaMonkey Suite and do not have to register to download add ons. I am sure that the web server would be able to keep a track of the number of downloads. Security? There is no need to log in to app store once you have already done it and are logged in as opposed to iThings, where you have to enter password every time (expires after 15 minutes) if you want install an app. Well my SeaMonkey Suite tells me that there is new version available, so is my Debian box that there are security updates available and I did not register.

Applications are one tenth the size as equivalent Android apps
Much faster due to native code

You and not the droid decide when to close apps
More sensible settings strategy (although I would like the system to become more configurable)

+1 on the speed. i was sceptical about the hw specs, but now that i have my Jolla, i can confirm its lightning fast. my nexus 7 with stock android isnt as smooth with twice the hw.

@shfit: About the hw specs, please note that they are better than the iPhone 5s, except for the screen resolution.

@Giacomo Di Giacomo ok, but what i meant to say, is that when i bought my Jolla, it had the exact same specs as my 3 year old HTC. not exactly state of the art. if you compare their performance though, its really a huge difference.
