Sony Mobile has confirmed plans to drop the ‘Premium Standard’ segment from its future smartphone portfolio. Sony still wants to do well in North America, but recognises that huge investment is recognised (read: marketing) to make a difference. It plans to try and grow share through providing differentiated smartphones. Sony also mentioned India, which it eyes cautiously due to the predominance of lower-value smartphone products with razor-thin margins.(...)"

Does it change cooperation with Sony and Sailfish situation? For better or worse? Or not at all? Will it help to spread the OS more? Will Sailfish be used to deliver differentiated products “with technologies that only Sony can deliver”? Can we expect Jolla will try to implement Sailfish, as cheaper and better then Android, to some more Sony devices? As natura horret vacuum - so this can be a chance to propagate Sailfish OS more or better, how do you think? First step is current collaboration. This could be next step and even a part for further investors seeking strategy. What do you think?
It is also an alert for Jolla to prepare for eventual opportunities to be explored, processed, used and monetised finally. And for us an opportunity for a new device(s) perhaps?
They aren't being discontinued, it just says they won't be replaced when discontinued. You can't blame Sony if people are so stupid to spend EUR 800 on a Galaxy S8 that even being a fine phone has no justification for that price. All Xperias had to be supported in the long term anyway, pity that we will have to fork out big money to get a phone as good as the Xperia X.

DameCENO ( 2017-05-25 18:15:48 +0300 )editAs long as we can continue having SFOS on the next sony flagships (compacts preferably) i don't care much. Sony makes good HW in general and with SFOS they become even better.
After all the plan is to have many Xperia devices supporting SFOS. And if we reach a point where we can have mainline kernels it will be awesome.
