Why don't you replace this Q&A page with a friendly and useful discussion platform, like Discourse?

Next gen. discussion platform Discourse gains more and more traction, and rightfully so. I understand the Q&A format might suite hardcore geeks and developer types, but if you plan to build a community around a more diverse group of people, a modern discussion forum still seems to be a better option.

See another attempt at failed community building, at also intended to be user friendly Elementary OS:

Thanks for your consideration!

Talking about "failed community building", the question is who is "together" of "together.jolla.com". Actually Jolla does not care much about what's going on here. Maybe because of lack of resources, maybe to prevent leaking of business critical sensitive information. A little bit more engagement to comment on user's burning questions would be great, even if there would be statements like "we don't know yet" or "we can't talk about it". But the constant silence from Jolla makes this site more like "alone.jolla.com".

@Stefanix:
This is actually not true, have look at this comment. Arguably this could be communicated more clearly. Also the overall strategy Jolla has with regard to user suggestions on TJC.

I found this set of slides to be useful as they shed some light on the communication flow - at least how it was in .the beginning. Found them on this thread

Strange. The mislead answer to use the - imho - atrocious talk.maemo.org forum gets 21 upvotes, while this very reasonable suggestion to use a dedicated Discourse based jolla/sailfish forum, bobbles at about 3.

I quite like Askbot platform, and I would to see it improved and its bugs fixed instead.

TJC has a large userbase and huge amount of data. Moving it to another platform is a hard task...

I also remember reading somewhere else that there is integration between TJC and Jolla i.ternal systems, so there is that, too.

Edit: This was thoroughly discussed in Update Askbot (running TJC) to a more recent version, but unfortunately with no real result.

Thank you for your comments @Side. Personally, I agree that our forum/platform could be more user friendly, especially when it comes to tracking older questions and answers. Unfortunately for the time being, it is difficult to say if/when there will be a replacement; but it sure is worth seeking for better alternatives.

Thank you. 100 % agree.

IMHO Discourse it is for community. Almost every decent programming language is now there - for good reason. As has been mentioned 'forum' and 'bug/issue tracker' should be splitted. For bug/issue there is Github. Bingo, you don't have to seek long: Discourse and Github... Done!

ASKBOT works good enough, it's just like Stackoverflow! Only without Stackexchange as company and the tight rules (rules == sometimes good, sometimes bad). And if something had proven, that it really changed the web in a positive way, it is Stackoverflow and the other Stackexchange sites.

Basically 'Stackoverflow' is focused on questions and solutions. Forums are nice for hanging out and building communities. Mailinglists are for administration and coordination. And Microsoft Knowledgebase is for...evict users.

My experience is whenever I find a Stackoverflow or Stackexchange question by Google, first I'm like: wow! I have the exact same question! Then I look closer and see: this question is closed because [insert arbitrary Stackoverflow/Stackexchange rule]. My mileage may vary.

If you need a community forum there is already talk.maemo.org which has a SailfishOS subforum. I would suggest it is more valuable for the community of an operating system that aims to be fully Open Source and Free Software if the discussion platform is independent of the company creating the OS. Especially as talk maemo is well established over the years and already carries a great community of people that are basically the target audience for SailfishOS.

This Q&A board is good enough in my opinion especially for new users.

If you need a community forum

It's not about the community forum format vs. the Q&A format per se, but also about who is participating in the discussion. For some reason, you want to separate the project developers to its users. I see it differently. They should mingle and interact in the same space. Heck, signing up here I agree Jolla could use my ideas to better its products, free of charge. :P

there is already talk.maemo.org

What the heck is Maemo? Sure, I can Google it, but why a casual user of an easy-to-use phone operating system should know and care about ancient geeky stuff, let alone go over there from here? Here should the main discussion take place. Maybe we just have a different outlook on this. It's fine.

as nooby user you just should continue stay here. but when you grow you can go to TMO, telegram chat or mailing lists.

@Side it's not clear what you try to say. You advertize a (partly) commercial platform and say the Q&A format is for nerds and geeks only. You claim you want something more friendly and open. Then you say it's not about the Q&A format as such, but dismiss the existing community forum at the same time. You say you want developers to mingle with users in one space. You signed up only hours ago, maybe that is the reason why you don't know that developers do come here to discuss features and bugs.

I would understand a "hey, let's try somthing new" type of post by somebody who's familiar with TJC and some possible flaws. But as you seem to be completely new here and all you did was promoting Discourse, I'm not sure what your agenda is.

My problem with TJC is that it tries to do two main jobs - Q&A and bug reporting - and inevitably ends up as a chat forum as well. It doesn't do bug/issue tracking at all well, and is totally unsuitable for release info.

When I was a noob here I posted a comment similar to this question here: https://together.jolla.com/question/102563/split-communication-announces-requests-bugs-support-devs-phone-tablet/ My opinion hasn't changed much.

Mozilla use Discourse for their Addons Q&A site: https://discourse.mozilla-community.org/c/add-ons I think as software it's excellent. Amazingly, it works well with the Jolla browser. I've also read that it takes a lot of maintenance. But replacing askbot with discourse wouldn't solve TJC's problems.

(@ossi1967 What do you mean by 'partly' commercial? It's free and OS according to wikipedia.)

You'll probably find similar discussions to this other instances of askbot - e.g. this one: https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/question/95681/ask-fedora-is-it-working-and-whats-the-future/

TMO is good. How about a usenet group?

@Side

"What the heck is Maemo"?

Ok, you earned my downvote and henceforth my complete ignoration with that comment alone.

TMO is the community you asked for; take it or leave it.
