save any email attachment

regardless of its extension, save it anywhere, or at least to downloads. at the moment (sfos 2.0.4.13) its behaves like windows-phone-7, which was kinda useless.

Fully agreed. A context menu would also be fine as in this related request: https://together.jolla.com/question/80827/context-menu-for-downloading-or-viewing-email-attachments/

After you clicked the attachment in the mail-program, it should show a download bar. After that, you find the File with the File Browser in /home/nemo/Downloads/mail_attachments/##/###-#*. There you can do, whatever you want with your file. At least thats the way in SFOS 2.1.0.11.

**Just choose the newest one. The folder name contains only numbers.

When the download is fininshed, you can click it again and the app that can handle the file will be opened (e.g. docx, pdf will open in documents, pictures will open in gallery).
