No GPS using metro in jolla store ?

hello jolla together !

I live in Paris without a car so I need to use the metro quite often. My problem is I couldn't find any GPS app that is rail. Modrana and jolla's maps can display metro stations but it seems I can't setup them to use it. For now my workaround is to use citymapper in web but the mobile internet in Paris is very very slow and the site is filled with heavy javascript which is far from ideal in sailfish.

Note: I don't care about timetable I just want the app to say which line I have to take and at which station I have to change.

Note: For multiple reasons I really don't want to install an APK for this.

On the London tube I often see visitors struggling their phones to work out how to get somewhere. I often give them a copy if the tube map - I pick up a new one at my local station. Worth it to see the look of relief on their faces! And the metro is much simpler.

On my J-C I have pdfs of bus and tube maps.

Try Poor Maps and set the basemap to "Thunderforest Transport" (depending on your screen and eyes either @2x or @1x). It would show you the transportation network and, I presume, Paris metro as well. Is it something that you look for?

Its possible to make an offline solution as well. You can write a style for Mapnik backend of OSM Scout Server that would highlight transportation system (styles at https://github.com/rinigus/mapnik-styles-sqlite) or even just metro lines. I might have to make sure that the data is imported, but its not too difficult and I wouldn't mind doing it. As soon as we have style available, I can include it in the next release of the server and we can ask Poor Maps and modRana to include the corresponding selection as well.

the thunderforest/poormaps solution is _almost_ what I was looking for ! Except the navigation is just taking in account what is the shortest path and don't care if that mean using hundreds of bus/metro for stop 1 each and also don't care what is a bus, a metro etc... Which make it unusable. =/

If you want navigation using public transit, it should be possible as well. As far as I can see, Mapzen Turn-by-Turn support Public Transport navigation as well (via multimodal, see https://mapzen.com/documentation/mobility/turn-by-turn/api-reference/#inputs-of-a-route ). Probably for historical reasons, Poor Maps did not include corresponding mode in navigation. However, you could ask for it by opening an issue at https://github.com/otsaloma/poor-maps/issues .

OSM Scout Server has Valhalla backend (same as Mapzen routing), I have not been importing public transport networks. I have no idea how much space would it require and what are the corresponding import scripts. However, it should be doable. First, though, I would suggest to make it work with Poor Maps/Mapzen Turn-by-Turn. Same setup could be later transferred to offline solution.

That Thunderforest Transport is probably based on OpenStreetMap data, which is not really good for public transport. Mapzen's Transitland is much better, see e.g. Metro 7 in Mobility Explorer, but it's all still very much a work in progress. It should be possible to make thematic maps by joining OpenStreetMap and Transitland data -- Transitland has even the metro line colors, but I'm not aware of such maps existing. Mapzen's Turn-by-Turn router does use Transitland data, but last I tried it was not yet good enough to be useful.

For anyone planning development, in addition to Transitland, there's Transitfeeds if you want GTFS dumps and offline routing/maps, and some aggregate proxy APIs, such as Navitia.io. And, of course HERE, available as a QtLocation plugin. Most apps still use transport authorities' official APIs, as that gets you furthest -- real-time arrival times etc., but with a small developer base that only allows us small coverage.

I always just use https://transilien.mobi/itineraire in Paris. It tells you everything you're asking for, plus itinerary. No app or GPS needed. (They have an Android app, of course, but why would you use that when the mobile website works just as well?)

My post is about a native application. google maps and citymapper are already doing that https://transilien.mobi/itineraire is doing this doesn't solve the slow internet problem (even if yes, it's much lighter).

Maybe change operator...? I've never had any problems maintaining a 4G connection with either Orange or Bouygues.

it-trains is italian only =/ I live in paris... Yeah I am considering writing this app but for the moment my time is a price I can't really spend =/ I guess I'm gonna stick to web stuff until I find find a way to create holes in the space time continuum to write this app. That's very weird, it seems opensteetmap has all information on stations but noone implemented it. I really feel like I missed a feature in maps/modrana/...
