Friend i am suggesting a group chat . not about creating whatsapp client .

Irc is great . We can't share images or files on irc. Whatsapp is not secure but we can use to beat it some day later . Its easy to use and further more .

Not necessarily whatsapp we can choose any one app which everyone is ok .

why i am suggesting is , only when we interact we can work together and only if we work together we can create something big . (example : to beat fb & whatsapp )

Please Click on this link to join the group : https://chat.whatsapp.com/IZUwyHysCWd5hhhFD7Hoqp

Its an Android app so we can use it until one is developed in Sailfish . Its an easy one, no need to set some fixed time for discussion or make schedules while everyone is busy . that's why I'm suggesting .

we can share some useful informations with everyone . On starting some may/may not respond but it will be ok on time .

Rules : 1. Dont ask for VOLTE or JIO Voice . 2. No baseless questions . 3. Don't blame or Cry . if so they will be removed from group .

Thank you .

if u like please join . if not please provide what's wrong , it will be useful . strong text

Unofficial versions of Whatsapp simply result in users being banned by whatsapp, this was the problem previously.

How about contacting Facebook, seeing as they own Whatsapp, maybe you can persuade Mr Suckerberg and his entourage to allow/develop an API for SailfishOS, otherwise, any other attempts at a third party version will just get more users banned, meaning that using the official Android version won't be allowed, as the user is blocked by phone number.

If I have this information arse about face, please, anyone; feel free to correct me.

@sugashrajavelu WhatsApp is owned by Facebook, which I regard as an enemy of the internet. Facebook doesn't want you to use the internet, Facebook wants you to use Facebook. For everything. As owner of WhatsApp, they hold absolute control over WhatsApp, and its protocol. Since they want you to use Facebook (WhatsApp), and not something else, lest they lose control, they forbid and actively shut down every other client which connects to WhatsApp and mimics its protocol - they did this for both (?) native clients which were developed for SailfishOS.

This is very contrary the free software principles on which SailfishOS is build.

@sugashrajavelu I tried to explain why suggesting WhatsApp here on this platform might be frowned upon. And more in general, why you should be wary of services like WhatsApp. There already are IRC channels - free to join without accounts, without privacy implications, with native SailfishOS clients.

There is a Matrix group: #sailfishos:matrix.org

Unfortunately, there is no native Matrix client for Sailfish OS, but the web client Riot seems to work via the SFOS web browser, although it's not a great experience.

@sugashrajavelu What are you talking about? The web version of Riot is live and well at https://riot.im/app/, and developed at https://github.com/vector-im/riot-web. There are other clients as well listed at http://matrix.org/docs/projects/try-matrix-now.html#clients.

Why create another group when there was one already?

I meant the Mobile version . A newbie couldn't find info about the group . that's why i questioned . Is there any page that lists all groups , github , projects , tuts .

if there is any please provide info .

https://openrepos.net/content/sailbook/matriksi is working for me as a native Sailfish matrix.org client.

  1. Settings app -> developer mode

  2. turn on developer mode, installs Terminal.

  3. Turn on ssh, too.

  4. connect to phone with USB. on your desktop configure USB ethernet to 192.168.2.1/24.

  5. ssh nemo@192.168.2.15

Password: [the autogenerated one in developer settings]

  6. enter following commands

    devel-su

Password: [the autogenerated one in developer settings]

    rpm --import https://sailfish.openrepos.net/openrepos.key

    pkcon install zypper

    zypper ar -f https://sailfish.openrepos.net/Sailbook/personal-main.repo

    pkcon repo-list

[you should see: Enabled openrepos-Sailbook Personal Sailbook sailfish repository]

    pkcon install harbour-matriksi

  7. [now Matriksi appears in apps. go nuts!]
