GNU Ring account support [duplicate]

GNU Ring seems like an interesting and active project. It is supposedly a secure chat/call/conference application.

Could we have it integrated into our accounts? This seems especially relevant to a phone.

Ring failed to work on my computer and Android phone:(

Hi,

I have installed GNU Ring on a Debian (Jessie) laptop, multiple android devices, and on my Jolla 1 'phone (the android app). So far, I've used it only for text chats, and it's fine. The one attempt to make a call with it was from my Jolla 'phone, and it crashes. I'm not too bothered by that at the moment.

My reason for moving to GNU Ring: it's now at a stable 1.0 release andGoogle Talk/Hangouts support has been removed from SailfishOS. Looking around, GNU Ring meets my ideal for a communications system (in a way that Hangouts and Facebook Messenger could never, and in a way that Signal and matrix.org with riot hint at but don't achieve).

I would love for GNU Ring to be integrated with SailfishOS, and to be able to use it on my Jolla 'phone in the same way I was using Google Talk interchangeably with SMS before the update to SailfishOS 2.1.1.2x.

There was a project kicked off that sought to achieve this as a GSoC project (https://github.com/alok4nand/telepathy-bell), but it seems to have stalled.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time or technical know-how to take this up, but I would support a serious effort to give it a go.

I installed Ring to Jolla C and to Android phone (LineageOS) from F-Droid, texting works fine, ~2 seconds delay. Minor issues if receiver is offline. File sharing is not supported yet. And I did make succesful video call too.... So only thing we need is native application. Available Ring version in F-Droid is outdated and I endup compilation errors so I don't know how good newer versions are

Unfortunately, as @Éibhear mentioned, the Telepathy connection manager (that would enable Ring accounts to be added from Settings, integrate with your contacts, etc) was only in development for as long as the developer's school project ran. Hopefully someone else will pick up where he left off.
