Alt-tech stack on Sailfish OS

Android and iOS (monopoly/duopoly) belong to companies actively censoring users, developers and creators. They does not appreciate freedom.

Alt-Tech revolution is a big wave coming. Just to mention some new kids in the block:

Totalitarian Facebook -> can be replaced by more open minds.com

Youtube is getting heavily censored by google -> bitchute.com is a great open competitor that works pretty well and attract more and more creators and users.

Twitter is falling, -> gab.ai is a great alternative.

telegram.org as a messenger is a good option (imho).

protonmail.com is an example of e-mail service with better privacy.

Open, secure, independent, free (as in free speech) OS that doesn’t report it’s users to big corporations, Sailfish OS should ride this new wave of Alt-tech.

It’s a right time, time for big break! Does Jolla have any strategy for providing Alt-tech stack applications as a part of Sailfish OS?

I also think that Telegram should be replaced with Matrix in your list.

Thanks for input. I will check out Matrix (The Matrix has you). The list is not carved in stone.

The main idea is to provide (make it more convenient to use) alternative (whatever we call it, alt-tech or non-main-stream). Also from marketing point of view.

There's not much "alt" about using one proprietary product instead of another. (Although I prefer to use the smaller, commercially less successful ones if I have to.)

The real alternative is to do things "the internet way": implement an open protocol (like http, smtp, xmpp, irc, ...) for a certain task and leave it to the user which server he wants to subscribe to.

I fully agree about protocols. But it's not about protocols. When youtube/twitter/facebook is censoring content, blocking users, - it gives an opportunity window for others (smaller, as you like) platforms (like minds/gab/bitchute).

The OS giving easier access for users to these new-wave platforms will have an advantage.

We all want Jolla/Sailfish OS to succeed, don't we?

These newer platforms are just as essentially worthless as the big ones you want to get rid of, for the very simple reason @ossi1967 mentioned: if these newer platforms get big(ger), they too will become totalitarian, because they are also proprietary. The only way to escape this endless spiral is with truly free alternatives (and preferably not ten thousand different alternatives that can't interact with each other).

Let's take an example - youtube competitor - Bitchute - BitChute is powered by WebTorrent. WebTorrent is written completely in JavaScript and uses WebRTC for true peer-to-peer transport. Using open web standards, WebTorrent connects website users together to form a distributed, decentralized browser-to-browser network for efficient file transfer.

one need to start somewhere. Waiting for pure idealistic orthodox implementations nobody really owns is not an option today.

I think this sentence will provide a huge platform for discussions... :-)

Let's say: Sailfish OS is currently the best compromise of all...

Is it open? Not 100 %, but nearly... It is not FOSS!
Is it secure? I don't know... Probably there is more manpower used for elimination of software diseases than for improvement of security (what is understandable in current state of development)
Is it independent? Well, it's located in an independend country. Nevertheless: It seems like big parts of it's current income are purely based on corporate orders e. g. from autocratic regimes like Russia and China. Can one call this "independend" nevertheless?
Is it free? I don't know...

Free as in Free speech, not like in free Beer. Let's put it this way: more open, (hopefully) more secure, more independent and more free than some others.
