Great . . . . . . . . just run the code ##7378423## to find . . . . . . . . . .
Rooting status: Bootloader unlocking allowed:No

So what now ??? I was under the impression that if i bought a network unlocked device I'd be able to unlock the bootloader? Why was it not made clear that SOME might not be able to be unlocked? Why on earth do sony make some locked and some unlocked? There's no way on earth when you're buying one off ebay or such that you can find this out beforehand.............. so am I screwed now and destined to a life of f*ing android ?

I assume you have enabled developer options, right? OEM unlocking checked, right?

" OEM unlocking checked " wasn't checked, is now, same outcome

Did you reboot after having checked OEM unlocking? If so, I'm afraid your vendor isn't really fair.

Yes i did,I rebooted after enabling developer options, and again after checking OEM unlocking, still no dice. What do you mean by " I'm afraid your vendor isn't really fair " ? This is a network unlocked phone bought off of ebay UK.

Well, perhaps your eBay vendor might be selling carrier-locked phones with false or incomplete unlock.

For xperia you should first downgrade to marshmallow, save drm keys, then go for unlocking. First needed is an unlock code from sony. put your emei there: https://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/email-verification/ Then enable oem unlocking bootloader in developer options. With the unlock code youre able to unlock the bootloader via fastboot. I can't imagine that there are devices of the same brand and model which can't be unlocked but maybe I'm wrong. Good guide in german: http://sailfishmods.de/2017/07/howto-sony-xperia-x-teil-1-cda-drm-keys-bootloader/

This matches your problem: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896553 Give it a try!

Readable code for service menu:

I hope that method does work or there's the potential for a lot of useless phones!
