Hello, I have a Jolla 1 phone. After resetting my device to factory settings, I tried to set up my GMX.net email in the default email app with IMAP for outgoing email. This used to work on my phone before the reset.

I created an account through Settings/Accounts/Generic email (I'm translating from Italian: my menus are in Italian). It set up the account with POP3. Then I edited the settings to make it work with IMAP.

The settings I tried are:

incoming:
imap.gmx.net
SSL
port 993

outgoing:
mail.gmx.net
SSL
port 465
Password (authentication required)

I found those settings in the GMX websiteand in the together.jolla.com post [Feature request] Allow choosing between POP/IMAP when mail server (GMX) provides both suggest. Also, they work in my laptops' Thunderbird.

Outgoing email works, but not in the IMAP style: i.e., emails that I send from my Jolla phone do not show up in the "Sent" folder of my GMX account when I open Thunderbird.

The error I get when I try to sync is "Errore di sincronizzazione" (sync error). I read all threads in together.jolla.com, and they all suggest those settings, but I can't get it to work.

I tried again with the "sync manually setting", and now the error I get is "Problema di accesso" (Access problem).

Have you tried STARTTLS with port 587 for outgoing mails? That's how its configured on my jolla 1 and working. What I do, when email config doesn't work (after changing password for example) is disabling the account > save > leave config > enable account > save.

Those server settings look well. I have those as well and they work. Are you sure you use the correct username/password combination? I for myself do not use the mail-address as username but my customer number.

Thank you both. Sorry @chriz, I shoud have mentioned that outgoing email works, but not in the IMAP style (see my edit to my question above to clarify this). I tried disabling the account > save > leave config > enable account > save but the situation didn't change. @naytsyrhc, I tried to use my "Kundennummer" (customer number) instead of my email as username, but it didn't work either. Still no luck (I still get "Problema di accesso" - access problem).

I also use

mail.gmx.net
StartTLS
Port 587

check authetification needed and type your credentials. For me works with two accounts without problems.

Be careful when you create the account that you don't use the automatic variant but better the manual in the past the automatic setup used pop3 and changing the setup afterwards didn't work for me

If the account was initially created with POP, even if you change server to an IMAP speaking server, the account will continue to speak the POP protocol. You need to recreate the account from scratch choosing IMAP.

@PatsJolla and @Damien Caliste pointed me in the right direction: when I had initially created the account, after choosing "create new account" and then "general email", I hadn't noticed the "impostazione manuale" ("manual configuration") button at the bottom, and had gone for the automatic configuration, which created a POP account.

The solution therefore is simple: when you create a new general email account, make sure you hit "manual configuration" button at the bottom.

yes it is really stupid behavior.. if you choose automatic setup in Thunderbird for example it works directly with IMAP. I guess the wizard has a Bug

Hello, thank you very much for this solution. I want to suggest to prioritize changing the behaviour of the account wizard. I was using the Android app from GMX for over two year(!) now, because I have not been able to enable the IMAP-Server settings. Too bad!
