When I receive movies over Whatsapp 1 out of 5 it makes Whatsapp crash. I press the play button and then the round cursor is starting to turn but it makes Whatsapp crash. When I restart the Alien Dalvik service with the Dalvik restart button created bu Schturman from Openrepos it works 9 out of 10 times, so the movie file is fine. Also when going to the movie in the Android storage with FileCase also from Openrepos the movie can simply be played.

So the problem seems Whatsapp or Dalvik related, I heaven't heard anybody with a Android phone complain and I can't find anything on the big web.

This problem is present since 2.1.* or so, not exactly sure since when but very annoying. It was present before the new media way of sending multiple files in Whatsapp.

I'm on a JollaC with 2.1.1.26 no EA or so.

I'm looking for people who experience(d) this also and know how to fix this or debug this.

I've already re-installed Whatsapp and deleted the total media database of Whatsapp. I have 2000mb free so that also shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not sure what I should do next, deleting and re-installing Android support is a lot of work for me and maybe there are other solutions already invented by a fellow sailor...

So the question should be, when will Dalvik be updated?

I think this will not hapen after dalvik runtime 4.4.4..

It was replaced with ART I thought.

But shouldn't more people be affected then?

@BonoNL : currently no alien-dalvik upgrade are possible

  • both technically (the linux kernel and drivers currently available on Jolla 1 are from Android JellyBean, they don't offer the all of the slightly newer API and drivers that an Android KitKat installation would need)
  • and legally (is the license that Jolla Oy paid to Myriad for Jolla 1 still valid ? i.e.: can they actually get a new version for the Jolla 1 once the driver issue is resolved ? or was the licensing agreement only negotiated for 2-3 years and have now expired ?)

@DrYak,

I'm on JollaC and since the 2.1.2.3 update it seems more stable. So for now it is ok.

But to be future proof Jolla needs to make work of plan B.
