Jolla announced different information about the bluetooth functionality (from not available to will maybe works without garanty).

Hope that the user which are using the Sony Xperia X in conjunction with Sailfish OS can share their experience, think this is not only interesting for me :-) Mean functionality with bluetooth devices, car entertainment systems etc.

The bluetooth functionality from the Jolla C was unfortunately a mess (no sync of the telephone list with the car entertainment system, problems with music streaming with the car entertainment system, bluetooth speaker etc.) Got from Jolla unfortunately, after mentioning these problems in the past, the answer that the Jolla C is only a community device (don't expect that we will fix such topics in the future).

Many thanks in advance :-)

Update: Sailfish X up and running, unfortunaltely the description from Jolla is not that good resp. not detailed enough.

First check: My Nokia bluetooth speaker are working fine when I use the Jolla media app, can conncet both of them (stereo mode). Connecting itself was very fast in my case. Received app (can recommend it :-)) is working now.

Jolla C is also working fine, can tranfer information between the two phones.

BMW: Possible to connect, contacts were synced (names and numbers) which was not supported with the Jolla C, calls via the hands-free system is possible. So this issue is fare better than in conjunction with the Jolla C.

Unfortunately syncing music, independent if I use the Jolla media app or the app "Received" is not possible, no sound. In the settings Sailfish X is supporting 7 different profiles (Jolla 1 only 6), but with the Jolla 1 everything is running fine but not with the Xperia X :-(

Jolla please help!

Update II (2.1.4.13): No changes, not working after the (EA) update. On top of that also the bluetooth of my Jolla 1 is not working anymore (see also here: https://together.jolla.com/question/179310/jolla1-audio-not-routed-over-bluetooth-in-21413/)

Update III (2.1.4.14): together.jolla.com/question/179310/jolla1-audio-not-routed-over-bluetooth-in-21413/ --> solved

I had the possibility to test it with some other cars (and entertainment systems), think the results are independent from V13 or V14:

BMW 220D (manufacturing date January 2018): Possible to connect, sync telephone list incl. numbers, calls via the hands-free system were possible, music were routed via bluetooth

VW Passat (manufacturing date February 2018): Possible to connect, sync telephone list incl. numbers, calls via the hands-free system were possible, music were routed via bluetooth, strange behavior: possible to turn the volume down but not up :/ (only possible on the phone in both direction).

Maybe this is more an issue about the manufacturing date of the entertainment system and not an issue about the used car brand itself.

HFT is not enabled in Sailfish Xperia X because of bluez5. See my answer somewhere down the road - I have posted also the profiles reported by Sailfish Xperia X and AquaFish.

Sailfish on AquaFish is bluez4 and HFT works.

Headset and Audio source and sink (a2dp) seem to work in bluez4 and bluez5. Perhaps not all devices but most.

There are issues with pairing, especially pairing older devices.

In my case the bluetooth implementation of the Jolla C is not working, with my BMW sync is possible but with no audio, no names (only telephone numbers) etc. Not sure what cause all the problems, Jolla gave never an answer regarding that issue. They aware of the problem but don't saw any reasons to fix that.

Try filling the "name" and "surname" fields in Prople, then check if names are shown. On the Alfa Giulia only entdies with names are shown, and the infotainment hardware is the same as BMW.

Bluetooth pairs and works with Nokia N808, Z1 Compact (android 4.4.4), Generic Android 6.0, Bluetooth headset (chinese), and my Thinkpad. BUT the big annoyance is that sending via bluetooth isn't integrated into gallery/file browser, etc so I haven't found a decent way to transfer files besides USB.

Photos can be sent by opening the photo and sending it, so one at a time, with a few clicks and screen loads between each one.

Won't you be a dear and open an issue about that functionalty for gallery/file browser....

Tried to pair Xperia x with Ford Audio but it did not work. Car shows the pin number but phone says something like "pairing failed".

I had the same issue with my Smart. When I got this message, I started the pairing again and selected the Smart device again. Then it was possible to enter the pin code.

Now I got it to work. Did not work via settings. Car sends a pin but can not type it in my phone. Then I used command line devel-su hcitool cc MAC-address now my phone asks the pin code and pairing was done!

Qwerty ( 2017-10-18 10:10:39 +0300 )edit

Qwerty, I have nearly the same problem with my Volvo. My car shows a PIN that I cannot enter at the phone and immediately after the car says something like pairing failed. Do I have to enter a specific MAC address with your workaround or is this part of the command?

You have to enter the MAC of the cars BT system. You can get it via devel-su hcitool scan

deloptes ( 2017-10-22 01:08:28 +0300 )edit

I could pair with my ford sync but when tried a call it disconnected so it does not work. Putting the pin code in was no problem at all

I can connect the device to my Mercedes Viano, but downloading the phone book seems to interfere the connection. The end and acceptance of the call has a delay of 20 seconds.

Did you try the bluetooth function of the radio? I also have a Viano and the XperiaX does not connect to the audio 20 system.

MaxT ( 2017-10-16 21:22:40 +0300 )edit

I have a Viano from 2010 and this CoI have a Viano from 2010 and this Comand has no bluetooth that's the reason for the bluetooth adapter.

Have you tried both coupling ways (from radio and also from Sony?) In can try at work. I work at a Mercedes garage

mbpilotuser ( 2017-10-16 21:28:19 +0300 )edit

My Viano is from 2012, bluetooth with the command system (no navi) was no problem with Jolla1 and Jolla C. XperiaX does not find the radio. The radio finds the XperiaX but does not connect after entering the number code.

MaxT ( 2017-10-16 21:39:07 +0300 )edit

You must activate "externally authoriesieren" in Audio 20, otherwise the Sony cannot find the Audio 20.

mbpilotuser ( 2017-10-16 22:10:38 +0300 )edit

That was the solution, thank you so much for this hint! I never needed to activate this for my other phones, so I did not know this option. After activating external authorisation, the Xperia found the radio (with mac-adress only), then I searched the phone with the radio and the connection was established. After this, the car was recognised as 'MB-Bluetooth' by the phone and connects automatically. I tried a phonecall and it works. I did not try to import contacts yet, because all my contacts are already in the radio.

Have tried and works OK with

  • Bose QuietComfort 35
  • Bose Mini II SoundLink

Also did photo transfer to OnePlus 3T successfully.

Hi, that sounds good to me. I would like to use the Bose QC 35 head phones with a Sailfish-Xperia, too. Did you have to install the Bose app?

Tried pairing with AOM36990 Navigation system (Honda 2007+), as described here, but failed. The guide worked well for Nokia N9 and AquaFish

Bluetooth on Xperia X running Sailfish 2.1.3 works for me with the following devices:
- Nuforce BTR-100 audio receiver (hub)
- Sony MDR-AS600BT headset
- Nokia BH-905 headset (old!)
- Samsung Galaxy S7 smartphone
- VW Passat 2014 car.

@jovirkku Can you specify that a liitle bit more in detail, especially in conjunction with your VW Passat. Can you stream music via the Sailfish player or the receive app?

JonnJonz ( 2018-02-21 23:11:12 +0300 )edit

Yes, i can play music using Sailfish Media app (on Xperia X), and hear the music via the VW audio system. Likewise voice of phone calls (from mic to line, and from line to VW speakers) works. However, I cannot play music from my Galaxy S7 via the VW system any more (after taking some Android OS update). :-(

Smart watch a.b.art ONE not working as Android app complains at startup that the phone does not support bluetooth.

Watch itself can be found if scanning for BT devices in Sailfish settings, so it seems only the android support is missing.
