James Noori answered here: https://blog.jolla.com/purchase-download-install-sailfish-x-now/ : If you need the paid features, you need as many licenses to as you have devices.

I've pasted. Try searching, and you'll find: If you need the paid features, you need as many licenses to as you have devices

I don't see any technical reason why this shouldn't work unless they've baked some kind of license check into SailfishOS that's run every time a new install first boots up and I just didn't notice it when I first booted up my SailfishX install. Then again if you're going to have this kind of thing it's probably for the best to not advertise it and just politely ask pirates not to pirate your software when you catch them doing it. A notification about this once a week or something ought to be the most effective way to convert pirates into paying customers.

If there isn't anything like this in SailfishOS, and I personally haven't run into it yet, then there isn't any technical reason why you can't install the SailfishOS image you downloaded on as many suitable devices you can get your hands on. Come to think of it, this leaves the door pretty much wide open for piracy on par with home computer games in the 80s and 90s where you could have a 10:1 ratio between pirated copies and legal ones.

For the image itself, yes it will work, but the answers we are waiting for are: what is happening when you setup your Jolla account, and what is happening if you try to download e.g. Android Support.

Well that requires someone to do it and see what happens, doesn't it? As I said, as far as I'm aware SailfishOS doesn't pack an the necessary authentication system for this so there shouldn't be anything stopping someone from at least trying.

Best thing is to ask Jolla, but IMHO according to the license there seems not to be any objection against using your copy of SFOS on as many devices you like so long they are yours and solely operated by yourself.

Did you accept a license other than the above referred, having purchased SFOSX?

What about situation where you have copied image several phones you own. Then you decide to sell one of them. You need Jolla to help change that licence to another account, doesn't that mean that after that you don't have licence any of your phones and maybe loose AD etc.

Have you read the license agreement? You did accept it some time ago, BTW :) It says "Note that the Software is only licensed to you, it is not sold", which means you cannot sell it. Only Jolla can license the software to the new user, meaning she may not have to flash the phone but she has to buy the software, create a Jolla account to enter it on the phone instead of yours. To avoid violations of this agreement between you and Jolla you'd better wipe the phone beforehand.

As James Noori said: "The license is tied to your account, but is definitely transferable if you write to us on Zendesk before you sell your device so we can help you out. And yes, if you get a new phone, it is definitely possible to transfer Sailfish X to it as it is tied to your Jolla account."

I was referring to this in my previous post. I quess this can be understood so that new phone owner has to buy new "license" but also way that you sell also your "license" among phone...

And no I have no intentions to sell my X, just curious to know how this really goes if people start to flash one image to several phones tied to one account.

I've contacted support regarding this licence transfert and I must say they were very reactive and efficient (contacted on saturday very early morning, so offices should be closed, had an answer that I will be processed on monday, and monday at 9am it was fixed! Seriously that's great!)
