This update, 2.1.3 alias Kymijoki brings Sailfish X for Sony Xperia X. Kymijoki contains connectivity improvements made for Qt and Android apps and fixes dozens of other issues, too. Lastly, go try the new "Flow" ambience! Updating your device

Your device must be connected to the Internet and signed into your Jolla account. If your Jolla account is registered for Early Access releases you should receive an OS update notification when an update is available. If you have decided not to take the Early Access registration then you will get the OS update typically one week later.

We warmly recommend making some 3-4 GB of free space to the internal storage of your device before starting the update. Move your pictures and videos to the SD card (or to your PC or cloud service). After the upgrade turn on the option to save pictures and videos directly from the camera to the memory card (Settings > Apps > Camera). This is important particularly in case of "Jolla 1" devices (product name "Jolla" in Settings > About product).

This is the usual drill before attempting to update your devices:

PLEASE NOTE:

- If you use Phonehook or Callrecorder from OpenRepos, uninstall it before upgrading.
- If you use oFono from OpenRepos, revert to the official oFono before upgrading.
- If you use Patchmanager, revert all applied patches before upgrading.

Take a backup of your data before attempting to update your device and save the backup to an SD card or to some other off-device location (PC, your cloud service). Note that videos and images are not included in cloud-based backups. Do not reboot the device while the update is in progress. Do keep the phone connected to a battery charger during the whole process. Device screen may blank out during the update process; you may waken the display by a short press on the power key to monitor the progress.

About SD cards

Please read our help article on SD cards supported by Sailfish OS: https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201997993

Known issues

  • Volume keys on tablet do not seem to work during playback.
  • After entering an incorrect WLAN (WPA) password the device may not present a new password dialog but keeps searching and using the incorrect password. In this case stop the search, turn WLAN off and on, and search again: the password dialog appears.
  • Bluetooth pairing may fail with some car models. Sometimes synchronizing the phonebook may fail, too.
  • VPN is still at beta level.
  • Two of the Utilities do not work currently.
  • New pictures sometimes appear at the bottom of Gallery.
  • Reliance Jio SIM cards (India) work in SIM slot #2 only according to some reports. We are not aware of similar issues in other networks.

Known issues specific to Xperia X

  • Manual network/carrier search lists all networks by the same name (the name of the SIM provider). Use automatic search. If not possible, you need to try several items in the manual search results, unfortunately. The top most item is not necessarily the one that can serve you.
  • Mobile data connectivity: In some cases using "Prefer 2G" for a while, then reverting to "Prefer 4G", may help.
  • VPN does not work.
  • Bluetooth: problems with car equiment, some audio devices and computers.
  • Waking up the device by double-tap does not work
  • New pictures may appear at the end of the Gallery (the fix is being prepared)
  • Sensors:
    • not working: fingerprint, barometer, step counter.
    • compass (or gyro?) working in Google Maps, not yet natively.
  • Internet sharing (WLAN hotspot, tethering) does not work but the hotspot can be controlled at the command line, see this Zendesk help article.
  • Issues with video playback and video recording (less than before).
  • FM radio missing.
  • Even though all CPU cores get eventually enabled, foreground apps do not always run on the big cores.

Updating went without any problems for me (Xperia X). The only thing that irritated me was that the red led is shining while the phone shuts down. Didn't noticed that behaviour previously and got a bit nervous when updating ended with just the red led and ablack screen for some seconds :)

Also, I had to disable and re-enable the "Show reboot option in top menu" option in the Developer Tools to get the reboot option back, but that's no big deal.

"Hide internet calling tone until the feature is supported in the OS."

It would be great if native SIP support would be implemented. The request allready has over 670 votes https://together.jolla.com/question/415/sip-voip-native-integration/

I bet there would have been bitter comments here, had we not fixed Blueborne and Krack which have been in the news even for less-techy people recently. Difficult to make everyone happy at the same time, giving our limited resources. Sorry.

@jovirkku I posted this because of this limited resources, you should implement fixes in order of importance. The less-techy-people seem to need names for this critical bugs to notice...

Kudos to @jovirkku for the well enhanced style, structure and type setting (e.g. the "Please note" block set as "code" with a bold heading) of the release notes.

This greatly increases readability and makes it much easier than capture the important sections.

Xperia X: hardware shutter button now supported, press half-way to focus.

Do I have to enable this somehow? For me nothing changed, focus only by screen tap, button still works only just to take photo, pushing half-way does nothing.

It seems that the camera is always focusing, except when it's dark. Only then pressing the shutter button half-way will have an effect: it will turn on the flash LED for focusing. I find it annoying and unexpected that the camera is constantly focusing.

Dietmar ( 2017-10-31 18:38:09 +0300 )edit

Hmm, just tried to push it with lights off, and you are right, it IS working in dark room, and this behaviour is strange indeed. Sometimes when there's enough light, focus is not working right - you have to wait or move phone a little bit so that it will be adjusted. It would be better if focus will always work by half-way pressing the camera button.

Space_Coke ( 2017-10-31 18:55:51 +0300 )edit

same here, half way did not seem to focus.

XFish ( 2017-11-01 01:27:44 +0300 )edit

it seems to work for me BUT: * You will first have to touch on the screen to set the area where you want to focus (adds a circle) * after that I see a small diffence if I push the button * but maybee it's jsut my imagination it's no big diffence

The focus is still bad. No matter if the half-press works or not. It always manages to focus on something completely different to what I clicked upon and tells me even it is in focus which is clearly not the case after taking a look at the taken shot.

Hello. Solutions to problems with TOHKBD2, TOHOLED and other alien halves are not present? The concept of the "the other half" is "dead"? Does it make sense to expect that in this direction there will be a correction for Jolla1? Or did it come to an end?

Every restart or activation of the smartphone's work causes suffering, when the "alien half" is installed. After updating to "Jämsänjoki" and newer

UPD.: The problem is solved with the last update of the utility for "TOHKBD 2". Thank you, Kimmo!

I updated to this version with the TOHKBD2 connected, and it did the upgrade normally. Also after the upgrade, the keyboard functioned as expected. However I lost all network connectivity. I also did a restart after, where TOHKBD2 was connected, this resulted in a no-start, Rebooting with TOHKBD2 and backplate removed worked: network was available and I could afterwards connect the keybord which worked fine. It would be nice if this could be solved.

According to https://together.jolla.com/question/164349/release-notes-211-jamsanjoki/?answer=164411#post-id-164411 the problem is caused by "systemd dependencies".

Personally I can confirm that the issue started with release 2.1.1 and is also present in 2.1.2.

Are you sure Python DBUS bindings are really allowed now ?

(question: https://together.jolla.com/question/162447/bug-dbus-python3-too-cant-be-used-as-package-requirements-in-harbourjollacom/ which is marked as fixed in this update)

It's doesn't seem that anything relevant changed in the RPM validator and the question itself doesn't mention any progress since summer.

As per the discussion on above item, we didn't allow dbus bindings directly but made python3-gobject allowed. Thus all the requirement for pydbus should be there and you can have your own copy.

Volume control on Jolla Tablet is broken after official release, you can only switch from 0% to 100% either using the volume key or three finger swipe. This is a serious issue, which makes most of the tablet apps unusable.

I confirm this. Also the system sounds (such as unlocking, typing, connecting charger) are louder than they used to be.

Hi,

Any chance to have this update available for Turingphone? If I try to do the manual update (SSU 2.1.3, ...) don't find the repository for armv7hl for snapdragon processor (tk7001 if I remember) Last update I was able to install is 2.1.0.11 which is quite old, and without all improvement made since.

Thanks!

when I connect jolla1 to bluetooth audio device (a2dp), audio is routed to bt device and speakers silent, are you referring to headset (hsp) mode? That one I heaven't tested...

lpr ( 2017-11-01 12:50:05 +0300 )edit

No @lpr - I am referring (not very well) to my laptop not headphones or headsets. My laptop is connected to my amp. Sometimes I like to stream music via bluetooth to my laptop and here it from my Bose (wired) speakers connected to my 20 year old Kenwood amp.
