Like the old Nokia N900, the Xperia has a "real" two-stage shutter release button (light press starts autofocus and locks it once it has focus, full press releases the shutter), but the volume-control buttons also take a picture. This may be handy for users which don't know the device to well, but for me it would be more suitable to put dedicated function on the volume buttons when using the camera app. Some people may prefer a zoom function like on the N900 (I don't need this), I would prefer something like exposure compensation.

Please make the volume-control buttons configurable in the camera app on the Xperia.

Volume buttons could be zoom, or adjustments of preferred actions, like shutter speed, iso, aperture, scroll through built in filters (future)

Good idea, but I think it's more important to improve the camera app itself, then make better use of the camera buttons. I'd really like to have a manual focussing for photos and video and to be able to lock the focus. The native Sailfish cam on Sailfish X is pretty basic and not bad for snapshots but not more.

Both is possible (at least in photo mode), but it is buggy.

In my experience the focus is locked once you press the shutter button halfway through. It is also possibly to focus manually by touching a certain are in the pictures.

BUT, the combination of these two features doesn't seem to work, I was unable to set the focus by touching a certain area, and then lock it by pressing the shutter release button halfway through.

I remember using the volume buttons on my N9 to control zoom. This would be an awesome addition if someone cares enough to build a package that can do this

It would be also good if the camera button could be used for custom purposes in apps the way volume buttons can already be used (paging in ebook reader, zooming map up and down in modRana, etc.).
