[Feature request] gab.ai integration

I've searched but haven't found a gab.ai app or Events screen plugin. Does anyone know if something has been written for this Twitter alternative which actually honours free speech?

Looks like they finally opened up their API: https://developers.gab.com/ so a native app might happen

Wow, I checked the site and it's nothing but conspiracy theories and American news written by and for the lowest common denominators. It's not even free software or a free network, there's no federation of any kind, there's no FAQ, no contact, no privacy policy, nothing! How could you possibly ever convince yourself this is a good thing?

The fact that it's an open commons makes it superior to Twitter, regardless of whether or not the content does not appeal to you.

If there's no actual policy written out anywhere, if there's no federation, and if it isn't free (as in freedom), there's nothing 'open' about it and you are wilfully being lied to. Not once in the history of the universe has a project which was set up by people disgruntled with the way their worldviews were seen by others ended up being anything but an echo chamber.

  1. Oh, this privacy policy? https://gab.ai/about/privacy
  2. How about some guidelines? https://gab.ai/about/guidelines
  3. legal@gab.ai seems to be a valid email address.

By your logic, we must all just suck it up and take what is fed to us, whether we like it or not. In fact, why are you supporting Jolla and Sailfish? Why not go with Android or Apple? They are established, and Jolla/Sailfish are just upstarts. The irony in your statement does not escape me.

None of those links were or are visible anywhere I looked on the site. Besides, you missed the point entirely. It's not that you shouldn't look for something better, it's that you shouldn't let yourself be lied to that something is better because it's 'different'. Instead of accepting nonsense from idiots on one side, you hop over to the other side and are already convinced those idiots are any better.

" In fact, why are you supporting Jolla and Sailfish? Why not go with Android or Apple? They are established, and Jolla/Sailfish are just upstarts"

Why doesn't he use panda bears to wipe his ass - cause almost everyone uses toilet paper or water? Keep to the topic and don't try to "argument" with that common unrelated whataboutism stuff. The irony in your argumentation doesn't escape me. We are not in America where that shit works. It simply disqualifies as beeing able to take part in any serious discussion.

Also there is no logic in saying "we must all just suck it up and take what is fed to us, whether we like it or not". Bullshit. Anyone can choose from several different media outlets, search for sources themselves, compare them and use brains to make an own decision.

On the other hand your info point seems to be using a website where you can get info from guys who post there because "Earn Money. Your audience rewards you" - so no intention to make money at all. "Superior to twitter". Sounds legit..

My 2 cents: as nthn already says: it's not federated. They could easily have used to just take mastadon or other open source software for this website. Instead they choose one that seems to be not open at all.

They don't have a public API and their app requires higher android version than dalvik provides, so unless someone wrote a script to parse the html and do evertyhing this way gab.ai client on jolla won't happen anytime soon edit: looks like they opened their API: https://developers.gab.com/

regarding dalvik android version, on sailfish 3 (when it comes out should be another 2 weeks I think) the android dalvik version (on the Xperia xa2 I'm not sure what other phones are getting) will be Android 8

Oh nice, where did you get that info from?

szopin ( 2018-10-11 10:29:45 +0300 )edit

here is where the info came from sorry for posting without proof it is from a Jolla official in a blog post.

Hi. Same reply as above: Sailfish X for XA2 will come first with Android 8.1 compatibility. There are some device specifics in the Android runtime implementation, which restricts our ability to bring same runtime to other devices.

Not sure if a bitch, but yeah, most mainstream corporations are clamping down on free speech, whether you agree with what someone is saying is quite irrelevant if you agree with the 'freedom of speech' idea, you should be supporting them even if what they say is stupid, reprehensible etc. Internet was built on that, but here we are cheering on the censors. First they came for the conspiracy theorists and I said nothing as I was not a conspiracy theorist...

You know that the "censors" are no censors at all.. We are talking about private companies that exclude someone from using their product. No government, nothing in that direction. Thats something completly different. The guys using this site still have their webpages and all - but those simply don't have the reach as twitter, youtube etc. Excluding someone from using your service is not censorship at all if it is your private service who agreed to your terms of service when he opened an account. Also i strongly disagree of accepting anything under the freedom of speech idea. And the content of the links post for sure is something where a line is crossed.

But again this is no censorship at all since it is simply violating the policy that was agreed upon when they opened an account.

Btw. the link was posted not to show that they are shut down in some way - but to show that the sites content is mostly about (free) hate speech - so not at all what it promotes itself to be.

That's funny, because the argument surely was different when a baker refused to bake a cake, even though it was his own company and he was supposed to be able to refuse service based on his own beliefs (not censorship, not government and all lol)

i dont see anything funny in calling for the eradication of all jews.

I find it funny that you will support government stepping in in case of the baker, then government preventing discrimination is a good thing, but when it is someone you disagree with it's their own company/business and they should be able to refuse service to whomever they want
