SFOSX /root full - only 379,6MB free - but for the life of me - I cannot find whats taking up space there??? Tried removing pics & videos & music - but nothing seems to affect the amount of free space

Is there a command to see whats hogging the space? Because music, pics and vids that seem to be located in the /home folder?

edit: sorry - wrote /home by mistake - meant /root of course

edit2: changed the headline to possible bug and marking the culprit

See there for @Sage's answer. The reason is either too many applications or that you played too much with developer mode ;)

Edit: or according to @thisisme's answer, a simple reboot might be enough.

Was none of these, but thanks for the quick input anyway!

OK - found the culprit - VERY weird???

Starting situation:

[nemo@Sailfish ~]$ df -h

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on

rootfs 2.4G 2.0G 376M 85% /

/dev/sailfish/root 2.4G 2.0G 376M 85% /

/dev/sailfish/home 47G 12G 36G 24% /home

First of all this has NO SD-card installed, since none of my SD cards work - the device will become stuck in boot - but I managed to borrow one small SD-card that I got working and copy files to it through SCP/WLAN while it was attached to the phone. Later I took it out - so currently no SD card - BUT

...it seems that there is some SD-card cache in mount /media/sdcard - which is showing SD-cards that have been attached previously(?)

[nemo@Sailfish sdcard]$ ls -l

total 16

drwxr-xr-x 2 nemo nemo 4096 Nov 13 12:31 12F2-0633

drwxr-xr-x 2 nemo nemo 4096 Oct 31 14:16 5558-DAFD

drwxr-xr-x 2 nemo nemo 4096 Nov 1 08:46 F0E9-334E

drwxr-xr-x 2 nemo nemo 4096 Nov 1 13:08 fb7ef8cd-f052-d301-d00a-f8cdf052d301

and under: /media/sdcard/12F2-0633 - was a folder "music" where I had copied music-files to test SD-card write speeds

=> deleting those files - and I ended up with 1,1GB of free space:

[nemo@Sailfish /]$ df -h

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on

rootfs 2.4G 1.4G 1.1G 58% /

/dev/sailfish/root 2.4G 1.4G 1.1G 58% /

/dev/sailfish/home 47G 12G 36G 24% /home

=> sorted - but Please can someone tell me what's going on with this SD-card file caching???

Interesting, I've put my answer as a comment then since this is a different (but serious) issue!

Are you sure the SD card was actually mounted when you copied your music in the /media/sdcard directory?

Yes it was mounted - was shown nicely in settings / space usage/distribution (sorry for bad translation) The card was FAT32 formatted and was tested and working in my Jolla1 and JollaC

Hot swap does not work, so everytime you insert SD-card or remove it while the phone is active you need to reboot the device first.

The folder UID stays in /media/sdcard/ folder even though you have removed the SD-card from the device (this is known issue) but it should be empty when SD-card is not mounted.
