I wanted to take some photos Today afternoon in my room, the weather was a bit cloudy outside but I have large windows + I turned on the light in the room as well. The result was critical. I tried to take the photos from different angles or with different settings and also with different applications (stock camera app, open camera, a betted camera) but nothing really helped. The flash light also didn't help at all.

I took photos in similar "lower" light before I changed to Sailfish on this phone, but I have never noticed similar terrible results. I can say the photos have been noisy in low light with my xperia, but not like this.

The focus doesn't work well at all, I need to tap many times to get the right focus or something similar... The photos are very noisy and dark, the white valance/colour inaccurate, complete crap!

Please, try to make the came better at least something similar quality what it was before on android.

I love to use this OS, I had all the devices so far apart of the tablet, and I waited for the OS release on Xperia due to the decent camera, display and other hardware, but the only improvement so far the better screen for me, everything else almost the same or worse like on my Aqua Fish. To be honest, the Jolla 1 had the least bugs actually...

Unfortunately the camera app can't improve stuff all that much. The problem is the Android OSP camera driver which seems very limited and apparently also suffers from the focussing issues a lot like discussed in other threads aswell already. (though AOSP had a version working fine before in regards to focussing. So Jolla should take a look and coordinate with the AOSP Team @ Sony to figure out why focussing fails most of the time) I am not sure if a Jolla dev is working on the AOSP camera driver. I doubt it. This means we or Jolla can only report to the AOSP camera devs and hope they fix stuff. Lets hope they also fix the issues when it comes to low light. Though its clear without the DRM'ed Sony algorithms its hard to create anything that comes close to what the Stock Android experience on the Xperia X brings.

I can report similar problems with my Xperia X running 2.1.3.7. It is impossible to take a simple photo because the camera refuses to focus properly, even when the indoor lighting is fairly good. Does an alternative application offer manual focus ?

@leszek but the photos taken with the stock Android after unlocking the bootloader, even if they have a lot more noise, are still quite lightly. So it's possible to have an acceptable result without the DRM.

So the AOSP version is far worse than DRM-free Android version? Why's that? Does Sony rely on Google stuff or they simply don't want to put their work in the AOSP version?

Jolla is responsible for providing a good camera and photo quality. It is obvious that focus does not work correctly. The quality in low light is underground. Focus on half-pressed camera button does not work. All that is not acceptable. Question: is the technical know-how missing?

Experienced the same problem. Photo quality is really bad, maybe worse thant the Aquafish... I am really disapointed by this.

Same here. I was in a dimly-lit museum and tried to take a decent photo of the top exhibition object. After 5 Minutes experimenting with different angles and configurations, and tipping the screen here and there, I gave up. I really wish that the issues that have been discussed in this thread are addressed in the following software updates. Plus: configuring the camera only allows one to set the resolution to either 16 MP or 13 MP - So if I get this right, Sailfish X do not even get the camera's full resolution? . It doesn't make any sense to have such a good hardware if its performance is limited by the OS. Come on guys, you have created a superior Operating System, please put some effort in correcting this.

Only the closed version of android gets full resolution. AOSP and Sailfish OS get only 16 Mp, for now at least.

...but the software will probably get updates that will enhance the capabilities of the camera.
