Problem: After having restored accounts from backup of Jolla Phone to Sailfish X, Gmail did not work at all ('problem in login'). Then after deleting the account and trying to create it again in Settings > Accounts > Add an Account > Generic email account, it still did not allow login like it used to in Jolla Phone*.

Workaround for the current session was found here under

Troubleshooting > I Cannot Login to My Account/Email Client > 2nd phase: Try These Troubleshooting Tips

As fifth dot there is a link to: https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha . There in the opening page just click Continue and You are done! Maybe not relevant, but in this case there was in the same time in Sailfish X the Add New Generic Email Account running in the manual setup phase. It was so close to move on to Yandex.Mail permanently.

Edit: *)In Jolla Phone deleting messages stopped to work after one delete. In Sailfish X deleting works.

Edit 13th Oct 2018: a terrible late update but Gmail started to function normally after a week or a couple of fiddling with the button behind the above link.

Unfortunately I just heard that it's only a temporary fix. Now in Sailfish X one has to browse to click that fancy Google button every day.

Does somebody know, if creating a generic email account for Gmail still work in Jolla Phone?

Note that last year Google began to enforce stricter security for authentication by 3rd party services. For Sailfish OS, this means you cannot create a Google email account using the "Generic email account" option unless you log in to Google Account settings, go to the "Security" settings, and turn on the "Less secure app access" option.

We don't recommend using the less secure option though; it's preferable to use the "Google" account creation option, which uses OAuth2 authentication.

This warning will be included in OS update 3.3.0.

Fixed in OS release 3.3.0 by adding a warning. See the details in https://together.jolla.com/question/174294/why-adding-gmail-account-as-a-generic-account-does-not-work/?answer=221695#post-id-221695
