Google Play is not officially supported by Sailfish OS.

If you still want or need to use it, please read this post: https://together.jolla.com/question/30926/howto-install-google-play-on-original-jolla-phone-sbj/

The latest Google Services won't download apps, see here. Install Yalp Store instead.

Giacomo, does this mean that this howto is no longer valid?

It's valid to install Google Services and Google Play. Google Play will work for everything except downloads, which will hang. Use Yalp Store to download the apps (which is nicer anyway).
