Upgrade to 2.1.3 failed on Jolla 1 phone

I have just tried to upgrade my Jolla 1 to Sailfish OS 2.1.3, but the upgrade seems to have failed.
The phone does not seem to get beyond the "jolla" screen when booting (the logo vanishes after some time and nothing else happens). I have tried to power cycle the phone and have removed and reinserted the battery.
What should I do to bring my phone back to life?
Is my only option to reset it via Recovery Mode?
I got that onetime on my jolla jp-1301 and it was fixed by fixing btrfs from recovery mode IIRC.
