Android applications very slow and unstable

Hello, I'm using an up to date Jolla C. Since the beginning of this month (so a long time after the last update on my phone), the Android subsystem is not working well.

For example, I'm using Whatsapp, it is crashing very often, the interface can be very slow (many seconds to switch the menu or to display a conversation). When I'm updating my apps (from Aptoid or Fdroid), it takes many hours to install just one update (Whatsapp, Google Maps or Fireofx) instead of few seconds or minutes.

And of course it is draining a lot my battery.

I don't see any relevant information on journalctl. Apparently I'm not alone about this issue and I don't understand where the issue come from or how to solve it.

Any idea?

yup the phones sometimes seems to run out of memory or processing power in android apps, that also happens in the browser when scrolling through endless thumv lists like instagram

If it changed in the last weeks and you didn't had an update, maybe its caused by missing space on the drive?

@h.berd It is not the case, I have:

  • 5.2 Gio available for user data (Half of the total space for that)
  • 1.3 Gio available for system data (Half of the total space for that)
  • 2.2 Gio available on my SD Card

@DarkTuring I'm not sure about this, I have this issue even if my memory is used at 50%.

The most strange thing is that native applications are working very well everytime.

i'm experiencing the same issues as Renault on an intex aquafish (converted to jolla c). there is sufficient space left on both sd-card as well as on the internal storage.

i wonder if it might be related to one of the latest Google Play services or Google Play Store updates from aptoide, as they provide the internal messaging framework for android apps. maybe the inter-app communication got disrupted somehow. i'm guessing in that direction, because shortly before the issues started, a couple of independent android users told me that notifications for e.g. threema were seriously delayed. again: it's a guess, might be far off.

The following question seem to be related:

  1. gms.persistent using a lot of CPU

  2. Android app installation takes hours

Have you tried to turn it off and on again? ;)

My JollaC (sailfish 2.1.3.7) showed the same symptoms. After deleting some android cache files and restarting alien dalvik it was only a little better. After a reboot of the phone I am "back to normal" for now, I hope it is for longer.

Edit: I found a workaround for installs with play store(version 6.4.13.C): When the download of the app is finished (100%) and it does not install, leave play store open, go to settings, stop alien dalvik and start it again. Then play store will install the app immediately.
