Hi there,

I have had the App in a subfolder for some time. Now as a friend of mine had my phone in hand and thought Aptoide - now only called "Store" is the App Store i saw the rebranding.

Why is the Aptoide App now called "store"? Serious Jolla - why would you even allow such renaming. What was wrong with the old one? What was the reason to rename? The only thing that should be allowed to have this name is the NATIVE Store - no other one - espacially one with 0% sailfish apps.

So next move will be yandex app beeing renamed to app store and anzhi renamed to play store??

Serious - this is misleading to every new user and should be changed back. This is you house Jolla - keep it clean and real. Unless you get a deal that offers you a few million bucks for that i'd say ok - but any other reason isn't really valid - and you for sure shouldn't allow aptoide to do such a thing just because.

Is it really Jolla who rename it?

@Xalofar: It doesn't matter who renamed it. It's Jolla who is responsible for the content of the Jolla Store, and it's in the Jolla store that this app it renamed to "Store". - I downloaded Aptoide directly from their website an got update only from there; they themselves stick to the name "Aptoide", which is also shown in my phone under the corresponding icon.

As far as I know, Jolla joined the Aptoide "Partners Program" (back in 2014) and has the possibility to add their own branding to the store (name, UI colours, icon) and control some of the content. See here to learn more about it: https://www.aptoide.com/partners?lang=en

So I assume the rebranding from "Aptoide" to "Store" happened on Jolla's initiative (not Aptoide's), since it's the by Jolla recommended Android app source.

doesnt make sense to me as this change didnt happen for 3 years. users get used to that brand name and then you change it? would be kinda weird. anyway we all only can assume. but what we can do is state that this change should be redone as it is misleading from any users/customers point of view

also - in my personal opinion- if jolla spends time/manpower on stuff like that there is something really wrong with priorities.

My guess is that it was a request by Intex so Jolla fulfilled that.

@kaktux: See this screenshot, taken from the Aptoide website in October 2014: https://together.jolla.com/upfiles/14122596262783685.png

Maybe in 2014 Aptoide didn't offer yet the option to modify the store - leszek's answer is also a possibility. Jolla is using a separate "Jolla" app repository (https://jolla.store.aptoide.com/), so maybe it's even a requirement by Aptoide to use a different store name if a client like Jolla decides to use a separate main-repository (for example to avoid incompatible apps). Regardless of Jolla's reason to publish a modified store, doing these modifications, including creating the icon, takes (far) less than 1h. I think it's a bit unfortunate though, that it's also called "Store" (like the Jolla Store).

Btw, I removed your edit in my answer, since you added the same sentence in your comment below. I prefer to keep it an opinion free answer - I don't use any Aptoide stores, so I don't have an opinion on it. I'm just sharing what I know and assume :-)
