Do you have any data about current active userbase for Sailfish? Any guesstimates?

Let's make a survey! Please, up-vote if you are using Sailfish, especially as daily driver...

Sadly, I'm not anymore. My J1 still works fine, for a device bought more than 3 years ago, and I hoped to buy the Xperia X as a replacement, but still haven't, too many problems reading here on together. I have used J1 with Android runtime from the very beginning (OSMAnd~ and few other fdroid app), but now is nearly impossible to have a good user experience: slow most of the time, default applications that are still the same after a long time (browser, mail app, chat). I missed Jolla C, had an Intex for some time (now sold), and funded Youyota, so I still hope for a better SailfishOS, as a real alternative to Android. But as long as (real) devices aren't available, the project will find a difficult life.

As if upvoting a topic on a page the large majority of Sailfish users probably never even bother to visit would be an indication of the total userbase. I mean, even I who check in pretty regularly and have 4 devices running Sailfish OS can't be bothered upvoting your post. You can ask Jolla about total amount of active devices, but I guarantee they won't tell you.

@bocephus: yes, upvoting is far from perfect - but any better, practical idea? ;)

of course, Jolla will not disclose any exact number - or, I would be really surprised, at least...

@bocephus: you can't "be bothered upvoting..."? What does that mean? Too lazy to click?? Anyway, the real figure would probably be quite embarrassing and not be published by Jolla. My J1 lives in a cupboard and receives all the updates. Unfortunately SF OS is not yet fit to be used as my main mobile OS, maybe will never be. But I am watching the progress and hope for improvements.

Have a look at the number of downloads in the Jolla store. For none of the apps it is more than a few tens of thousands.

This counts the number of users that have been active in the past, not the number of currently active users.

Yes, so the number of actual users is actually smaller than that. At least it's an upper bound.

But, I just remember another drawback of this. Corporate devices (as the ones in Russia) may not use the Jolla store at all.

Hello I think you can make some estimates, just looking at the number of installations in the Jolla Store. However I think that the counters count the progressive number of downloads, and not the installations: so if a user reinstalls the app, counts 2x, or if he switched to iOS does not drop by 1.

So I think the total number of active Jolla Sailfish devices could be:
- Looking at the basic apps like "mail" we see 50,000+, while for newer apps like Exchange we are at 25,000. an average of between two, but closer to 25,000, for a generous estimate,
- a medium figure averaging between these 25,000 and 10,000+ WebCat installations (the alternative to Browser).
- a lower figure taking the 18,800 Jolla-togheter questions and dividing for 4 years (from 2014): about 5000+. Also, looking at the Webcat installation and assuming that 50% of installations are not active.

So I think it's really probable roughly 5.500 users. I just tried to figure using some adv-media derived method. ;-)

Off the top of my head, I guessed around 7,500 - based roughly on the amount of usernames registered here on TJC, which is currently 12,330. But hey, it's all conjecture anyway.

In Italy I feel that we are in 20-30 peoples :-)

Then the most intense Sailfish density must be in my office then (if we do not count Jolla): at least three active Sailfish users in one single building, one of them has Jolla1, JollaC and even the tablet... ;)

But yes, tgere could be some dozen in whole Hungary at best... :(

I think those 50k+ days have gone and not yet come again. But I'm really interested whether Russia, LatAm and especially China activities will cause any change. For the better, of course... ;)

I have no idea how and when breakthrough will happen - if at all - but hoping for it.

Happy New Year for us, all!

@Jolla Harbour you can see total downloads and active installs also. I have two apps Fast Chess and At Work with totally 1867 downloads and 1159 active installs. From that experience dividing downloads by two sounds reasonable. Of course those who left their devices on their bookshelf have to be subtracted.

So few users produce so much content in TJC? I can't believe it.
