AFAIK Qt version in Sailfish is based on v5.6 - and, telling the truth, it is kind of living history... ;)

5.10 has been released recently with nice features but even 5.9 has many great improvements, especialky if we compare it to 5.6...

I have no clue about how big effort upgrade would require in Sailfish but it would be more than just welcome... ;)

Here you have an answer http://merproject.org/meetings/mer-meeting/2017/mer-meeting.2017-05-31-08.00.html

"we just updated to Qt 5.6, which is considerable effort, no short term plans to migrate to Qt 5.9 (Jaymzz, 08:50:43)"

It was in May, loooong, time ago, isn't it? :D I hope they will change their mind. 5.6 is _aging_, hell a lot of stuff has been fixed/improved/added since then...

@zlutor Every time jolla tried to update Qt there were issues and delays. With the resources they have available its difficult AFAI understand.

What's the hype behind updating Qt?

it is not about hype...

qt 5.6 is _old_ and aging. full of issues fixed/improved in newer releases. lack of new features/concepts, etc...

e.g. personal example: myvapp (Gooble Invasion) is facing freezing issues on Sailfish never seen on any other playform with newer Qt from W7 to various Androids (4.4+, tablets).

Suspicious code part is cross platform, simple Qml+Javascript and after spending hours of bughunting without finding any real obvious reason I tend to think I've found some internal stuff that does not exsist/visible in newer version. But I can easily be totally wrong, of coutse... ;)

Qt 5.6 is not old and aging, it's a LTS release which is still fully supported for almost the next 1,5 years. There is so much to do around Qt before thinking about the next upgrade (fix Xperia slowness, allowing QtLocation in the Store, ...) that I think we will unfortunately live with the 5.6 at least until its EOL.

There might be some way to compile and test your app with a newer Qt version, but the question was never really answered: https://together.jolla.com/question/130591/qt-55-sailfish-application/
