I have a provider which users national roaming, since they don't have a network themselves. In mobile networks there should be not only an option for always and ask for roaming, but also an option for allow national roaming.
Enabling roaming per default has the problem of unpredictability, since I live near the border to another country.

Best option would be to set a list of allowed operators (ID's) in roaming mode.

There is no such thing as "national roaming". In some countries there is virtual operators that are working in roaming mode. Jolla or any other device cannot make difference between virtual roaming and real roaming.
maybe an internal list in jolla (or through jolla servers), which networks to include in national roaming, if someone has such a network?

There is no "home operator" any more, so the SIM always roams. The modem has to figure out of its own, which provider to log in. Thatfore the modem must read and interprete this list.

In case of Jolla the modem is integrated, so it has to read this list an try manually to log into a network from top of the list. I once saw a paper from Vodafone (will provide it, when I find it again), that described the procedure. Ugli it was.

As the list continues, the operator has more and more unsatisfying contracts with the network operators and the modem should avoid them, if possible.

That takes time and the user has to wait. The list itself is not that clear and the modems behave differently.

This is correct in that sense, as you can use another network in case of missing net coverage of one certain provider. You continue along the list and take the next one.

Where I live, I'm using an operator which has it's own 2G+3G network in many cities, and then "roams" to another operator where they don't have coverage. Jolla seems to track this though already. When I was recently abroad, I noticed the "triangle roaming" icon. But this does icon does not show up when I'm in my home country, roaming or not. So I believe this issue may be solved.

Is it not sufficient to set the provider fix to one of those, a scan of mobile operators reveal (settings -> mobile network -> disable automatic network selection (or similar)? As far as I know these national roaming SIM cards are a PITA, because noone really understands the tables on the SIM cards.

renegade22 ( 2013-12-25 22:38:38 +0300 )editI have the same Issue with "drei" in Austria, as they do not have an own 2G network besides their 3G, instead you are allowed to use the regular 2G net from T-mobile as part of the contract. The problem is that Sailfish handles this as regular roaming. Cyanogenmod handles this issue very well...
