My office is mostly surrounded by steel-reinforced concrete, ensuring that all phone connectivity flickers between nothing and a single bar of 2G. One problem that occasionally gets triggered by this is a device-crippling flood of "Problem with connection" messages; the device takes a long time to respond to button presses and touch commands, while the "Problem with connection" notification popup is constantly spammed. During this, the CPU is consumed entirely by lipstick, connectionagent, timed-qt5 and msyncd.

Journalctl log is as follows:

Jan 21 13:26:01 localhost connmand[1607]: connman_inet_clear_address: Invalid argument
Jan 21 13:26:01 localhost connmand[1607]: connman_inet_clear_ipv6_address: Invalid argument
Jan 21 13:26:01 localhost lipstick[2131]: ---- errorReported: Operation aborted
Jan 21 13:26:01 localhost lipstick[2131]: ---- errorReported: connect-failed
Jan 21 13:26:01 localhost lipstick[2131]: ---- errorReported: Connection failure: vodafone AU
Jan 21 13:26:01 localhost lipstick[2131]: ---- errorReported: connect-failed

(repeat at a rate of about 5 times per second)

Killing the lipstick process stops the flood, at the expense of closing everything that was open.

I've encountered the same bug a few times.

I've encountered the same bug a few times too in the past few days, had to hard reboot as the phone was not responding anymore (could just wake the screen - with a significant delay - and then chose to wait or close non-responding apps). In my case, it was not due to bad reception or steel concrete.

I got that behavior several times. lipstick, connectionagent, timed-qt5 and msyncd, eating the whole CPU

This is a significant issue now for me and renders the phone useless. The solution below is not a solution, it is impossible to do anything with the phone until it is rebooted. This is a major bug.

I've experienced this problem a couple of times as well. Most recently yesterday evening. There's an added bonus where during the infinite 'connection error' loop, if I switch off Mobile Data, the OS brings it back up automatically in a few seconds.

UPDATE: I can confirm that this happens when you lose a connection, i.e. walk into a building and lose 3G connectivity. Phone goes crazy and refuses to stop trying to connect, even when switching offline mode on/off. Only "fix" I've found is to reboot.

Hi, same problem here. I've experienced it when phone is trying to connect to wifi or 3g without good coverage. I turn it in plane mode.

really need a fix because phone is totally frozen when this error appears.

In this question (same issue, I think?) the problem is acknowledged by Jolla & they have a fix for it to be released in the next update.

Same problem. I noticed that when I enable the Plane Mod leaving the wi-fi and 3G connection enabled. Wen I disable Plane mode the connection error comes out.

SOLUTION I FOUND:

  • before of enabling the airplaine mode you have to disable wi-fi and 3G connections.

Hope it will help...

For me it was wi-fi, 3G and bluetooth. I agree with @bockersjv this solution is not a solution, this problem deserves a proper fix.

Refer below post - some good news. :-) Looks like future update will have networking fixes. https://together.jolla.com/question/64892/bug-the-most-urgent-problem-connections-manager/#post-id-68776

We have suppressed lots of "Connection error"-notifications in the upcoming updates....

I'd say this particular issue has been fixed in an update; originally this was getting triggered once every couple of days, but there's been zero trouble for several months now. Thanks Jolla! (phone is running 1.0.8.21)
