How much overhead due to the android layer?

Has anyone measured the oerhead due to the android emulation layer? Is there any official data on this?

This question isn't that easy to answer. The Android layer per se will not be as much cause for energy drain as certain Android apps - misconfigured or misbehaving - would be.

New versions of Google Play Services being the tier 1 in this respect.

The biggest factor of slowdown is the use of Dalvik instead of ART that comes with Android 5.0 and above. An Android phone with the same CPU will run apps typically almost twice as fast.
