Messages: "Change Type", UI design not clear enough?

I have now several times sent an sms when I wanted to send an xmpp message and vice versa. Combining the conversations from several protocols in one stream is good, but the current type of protocol to be used should/could be a lot more apparent to avoid mistakes like this. Maybe a color or shape change? The current behavior of displaying received sms differently is not enough, since it only shows what was the last type of protocol used and is still only text.
Maybe I need to get used to this more, but I think this could benefit a lot from a slight increase in differentiation between the protocols. Colors/borders/glows, whatever.
