I cannot do anything (even change number) with things that have Earth icon beside it. I assume this is info from various merged accounts. But why are they shown in edit form/page if they are not editable (nor cannot even be copied)?

The globe indicates a synchronized detail, originating from a source that we cannot modify. We will later provide the option to sync changes back to that data source (where that is supported), but until then the detail is read-only. Of course, we will receive updated information if you edit the data at its origin.

It's not the problem of modifying it in the source. The source doesn't tell you (in most cases) if it's a home number. It doesn't tell you if "123 456 789" is the same as "+48 123 456 789"... This are just some of the reasons why you need to be able to discard/sort/override some numbers locally.

I think editing should be allowed locally, and making local changes authoritative, with the possibility to update from remote, or sync local changes to remote.

I've understood Google sync is nowadays two-way, but still the numbers can't be edited. Am I missing something here?

I guess the idea is as follows: if you merge a Google Talk contact with a phone number contact, then removing either of those info would actually be equivalent to remove the entry in one of the accounts.

Say you remove the Google Talk ID from someone, it would mean to remove the guy from your Google account, but not from your phone directory.

Basically, I think that the workaround would be to unlink the contact, and then delete it.

But if I may give my point of view on that, I think that this way of handling multi-accounts is quite clumsy. Simply separating contact info in a per-account manner would seriously help.

I think you're right (that those are numbers from merged accounts), but: 1. There is no way to tell from which one. 2. There are many duplicates which only clutter the view. 3. You cannot change their type. 4. You cannot copy the number.

Well, that's why I've been talking about a workaround. I also find this quite messy

I imported phone numbers once when I was migrating to the phone. I'm not synchronizing with that iCal temp sync source anymore. Inability to remove such numbers is very annoying - currently I have to delete entire record and add it again from scratch ...
