well the title pretty much explain everything, i think the store needs to be redesigned

i personally don't care about activities so they could be ripped off to me, since they are just wasting space,

apps are way to far to reach, and it would be nice to have categories on the right accessibles with a swipe (as it is now but in the main screen and not in a separate menu, and maybe games on the left,

it would be even nice to have categories changed since as of now it's impossible to find things with those

it would be nice anyway to have that store shown in early sailfis\ prototypes (after last application) :)

The only thing that is wrong with the store is lack of any convenient way to pay for apps or donate their developers.

Ohoho, if that was the only thing! :D

My points might be kinda developer centric but, well, it's developer who write the apps for the store after all:

  • no web version of the store
  • questionable decisions what APIs Store apps can and can't use, with large swatch of critical APIs more or less missing
  • no notifications at all for new comments - you have to manually check your app in the store application to see if there are any new comments from your users

i am not a developer but i agree on everything :) those things are essential :)

Another thing: If you had to reset your phone you start from the beginning. There's no purchase/download history of apps that I used before. I always need to search them manually again.

@Cryx Yeah - even if they didn't track this stuff per user server side (would make sense for privacy reasons) it could still be part of the backups - should not be that hard.

Of course, the jolla store needs to be redesigned from scratch. At a basic level from the organization of the contents it is a more advanced level in the editorial aspect: the apps are simply listed as if we were in the store of the nokia N9 of 2010 (and it would not be bad to have that choice of app, updated, on sailfish; -)

A look at the new app store would not hurt.

In practice there are missing aspects of visual design and a bit of UI design, I often feel that Jolla is populated only by pure developers and other profiles are missing.

Actually, having the N9-style Ovi instead of the current Jolla store would be just fine! :D I had an appliaction in it back then (the Mieru manga/comic book reader - ~30k downloads, mainly from China for some reason) and it worked just fine. It had:

  • proper web interface
  • reasonably well working developer interface
  • well working client app
  • some basic developer statistics (eq. you know from which countries you are getting downloads & downloads in time)
  • notifications for new comments (IIRC)
  • support for paid apps (I have not used it for my apps, but bought some apps and it worked fine)

Very nice, it left a manga/comic reader for Sailfish. It left also a good Adobe acrobat app...
