Same here on my Xperia X. After update from 2.1.3.7 to 2.1.4.14, url links from apps like tweetian, email, piepmatz, quickddit will not open in browser. :(

Same for me on Xperia X. However, if the browser is already running, it opens the link.

It works fine for me no matter if browser opened in the background or not. Have you tried restarting the device? Usually the default browser uses a desktop file with dbus instructions. This one should start the browser if it isn't running already otherwise it just sends the dbus command to open a new tab with the specified url.

yeah, i found a solution: https://github.com/llelectronics/mimer it seems like the standard browser is not set correctly. After Install "Mimer" an set the Sailfish Browser as Default Browser, all works fine :)

Edit: Hmm... not all. if the Browser running, it puts the browser in the foreground but the link will not open

if the Browser NOT running, the browser starts and the link opens in a new tab

Tested upgrading Xperia X from 2.1.3.7 to 2.1.4.14 and xdg-open / link opening kept working.

@NeoP3DNow did you get this working as well? Network connection is / was working? Any chances to test that "xdg-open http://www.google.com" works if this still an issue?

@Bakero could it be that you have installed some other software that has registered itself as http/https url handler?

Hmm that does not seem to work to pass correct urls to android bvrowsers like fennec the frew browser

Any idea how to fix that?

@rainemak: Network Connection is working. I have now tested "xdg-open http://www.google.com". the result: if the Browser running, it puts the browser in the foreground but the link will not open if the Browser NOT running, the browser starts and the link opens in a new tab

(how can I mark and copy text from the terminal??)

Does that work from other apps though? Specifically RSS readers and even the Jolla Together app? Because I am still getting the app opening but no URL being open.

Oh for the record it does not work with Web Pirate either.

@rainemak: Probably. Webcat browser, Firefox (android) and i played around with Mimer a bit... I've tried to re-install the Browser but failed, so no stock Browser for now, only Firefox. Result is that the url's are now opened by Firefox even if Firefox is not running. For now I'll keep it this way, later i will try to get the stock browser back.

On my Jolla 1 phone under SailfishOS 2.1.3.7, Mimer works nicely with Fennec, Firefox and SFOS-native applications.

Mind, that Mimer fails to show the selected apps at the GUI, but "Manual edit" in the top pulley always shows the true settings.

Also mind that WebCat and / or WebPirate need special measures (I don't remember which one or both: Read their descriptions on OpenRepos.net).
