There is now a somewhat working initial version of Yle Areena app for Sailfish, has anyone else been looking into this?

project: https://github.com/joonne/harbour-nayttamo

issues: https://github.com/joonne/harbour-nayttamo/issues

board: https://github.com/joonne/harbour-nayttamo/projects/1

Current features:

  • search for programs
  • search/filter by categories
  • show the currently airing programs
  • cover page showing some information about the current view where use is at
  • subtitles working

Limitations / problems:

  • API keys need to be hidden in the resulting QML files

Please publish this in www.openrepos.net and in Harbour when it's stable enough.

We were looking into the YLE API two years ago, but the video stream simply refused to play back then. The project was abandoned. Apparently you got around the issue. The old thread is here: https://together.jolla.com/question/88424/new-version-of-yle-areena/

Sounds intresting, I can test it!

Definitely interested. On mobile I use the radio from Areena more than the video-side.

But for me native app would need to have the possibility to continue listening a show where I left off to be able to compete with the Android app.

It is indeed interesting how you got the video stream working. I had basically otherwise working app but videos just wouldn't play, not even on my computer using instructions from YLE. I was in contact with their support but couldn't solve the issue with them. Please do push the source code to github so we can help with development. Just remember that the API key is private so you probably need to remove it from the sources before sharing the code.

It might be the issue I mentioned about that they are limiting quite a lot of content. It means basically that even if you are able to create the video URL, it won't necessarily play at all.

I'll push the project into GitHub during weekend hopefully so you can take a look & test it.
