I'm developing Sailbook together with Rudi Timmermans and adding native chat support is impossible due Facebook.
- They block everything from third-party apps, Sailbook uses some mean tricks to bypass them but it can break anytime.
- The native chat application doesn't support group chats which are required for Facebook.
- This would violate the Facebook Terms of Service which could lead to lawyers and so on...
The notifications are still working at the moment on all my devices (Jolla 1, Jolla C, Xperia X and Oneplus X) and might improve as soon as SFOS 3 is released with support for the new Webengine. In theory, notifications should work then even when the app is closed.
In the mean time for Xperia X users, download the Webkit revision from Leszek on Openrepos. This provides an up-to-date Webkit package (video's are working then in messages) and is more fluent then the stock version.
But so tell me, how did Sailbook do it then? I mean just extracting the messages of the Sailbook App to a Messenger App
Firefox84 ( 2018-03-24 16:27:42 +0300 )editYou mean like a proxy to facebook native messenger ( running on android)? That'd be a loose-loose situation right there; no native app, and all data coming from fb anyways.
tortoisedoc ( 2018-03-24 17:28:51 +0300 )editEarly SFOS releases allowed that via an XMPP account and native message app. What changed was FB API terms and conditions.
pmelas ( 2018-03-24 17:46:18 +0300 )editUm, no. Absolutely no Facebook integration in Sailfish. If you are stupid enough to sell your life and soul to Facebook, then you can damn well use Android like the rest of the sheeple, because your integrity is alredy a lost cause. Don't bring your trash to an OS that is meant to be the opposite of what Facebook stands for. If you have a Facebook account, I pity you - but it's not my problem.
bocephus ( 2018-03-25 02:10:54 +0300 )edit@Firefox84 Sailbook uses a webview to display the Facebook mobile website. Almost all other FB clients on Android are using this trick.
