Contacts not visible

I'm having a real problem with my contacts at the moment running latest Sailfish on a Jolla 1. After a factory reset I use a google account to sync my contacts to the phone. All seems well for a while, but then after two or three weeks I find my contacts will fail to appear in the 'People' app and the Phone app. Sometimes I try manually syncing the account- which seems to make no difference, sometimes I try a restart and this may work but not always. Other times I have tried disabling the account and re enabling. Sometimes this seems effective for a while but then the contacts disappear again after a while. I try to use my Jolla as an everyday phone and I'm keen to upgrade to Sailfish X but this is obviously a major headache when it happens and undermines my confidence in Sailfish, sadly. I would love to get this sorted, I really hope someone can help. Thank you in advance!
