At the moment the current date including the week day is shown if you use the pulley menu in the lock screen view. This is not an intuitive place. Maybe that place also is not fast enough accessible if using gloves.

The goal of this question is to find a better place where the date is shown by default. Please fill your proposal(s) as answer(s).

This question is not about "make it self configurable" or "I want widgets on the lock screen" and stuff like that. If you like to discuss these topics feel free to do it here.

There seems to be a typo in the title, right? Don't you just mean to ask: 'Where do you want to see current date info to be visible?' and get one suggestion per Answe?

foss4ever ( 2014-01-22 11:13:35 +0300 )edit

Yes, good suggestion. I changed the subject.

By default, the current time location is great, and I liked @jjaone's idea about adding the date there. I also visited the other link mentioned in your question and added an idea there. Nice of you to relate these questions with a link :)

simo ( 2014-01-22 16:08:04 +0300 )edit

obviously under mobile provider name... or above clock and idem for status icons

@simo Yes, current time location is ok, and as this question is about the "date info" it would just need to be moved few pixels upwards to make space for them both in the same area.. ;)

Date and time go together, so they both should be shown by default in the Lock-screen (just there where only the time as hh:mm is now) formatted by system locale, or user given date-time string, e.g ”dd.mm.yyyy hh:mm.ss”.

Edit; definately not the date nor time should be in Pulley menu which is for items to do something, and not for static info.

Edit 2: note that if date-time visibility is solved this way, it is shown when "peeking" from app windows with all the other status info there "hidden" in the area between Lock-screen and Home-screen ;)

Note: there is question already that matches my opinion abt the location of date-time info (even if I'm not saying they must on top of each other). You can.vote that here; https://together.jolla.com/question/12694/display-current-date-below-time-in-lock-screen/

Configurable datetime would be nice. Would take care of any locale-specific formatting issues as well (even if the device had some default values based on your phone settings).

lift time a bit up and then put date underneath it in two rows & current font (current font of date that is)

@t0mps0 yep ;)

The date below time could also act similarly to the title of the first application row: transparent until the screen is been flicked. This would keep the lock screen a bit more clean. The date need to be visible when peaking.

yah, date needs to be visible in the peek. really annoying to go to lock screen just to check the date.

I suggest to add the date in the same format as it is currently shown in the pulley menu below the operator name using a similar font. At the same time it must be removed from the pulley menu.

The reason for putting the date next to the operator name using a similar font is that it is not too invasive. The time in contrast should be more visible as it is demanded to be shown more often.

I missed your answer sorry, so I put below the answer I made which is quite similar to yours. I upvoted yours. I suggest to add the date (in full format, including day of the week) on the lockscreen, either on top, above the operator name, or on the bottom, above or below the clock. It may or may not be shown when picking from inside an app to check status information (when partly performing an edge swipe to temporary show homescreen + clock + status icons), I have no opinion on that.

The pulley menu is not the right place for this information, plus the pulley menu is usually used for interaction and commands rather than information. It is not natural to me to trigger it when I am looking for information, I always forget that the date is in there.

I like the way it is, clean lock-screen (should start a club for it... and I just did https://together.jolla.com/question/20626/helsinki-yachting-club-supporter-of-the-jollauiux-design-team/)! If need be enable an option to display it below the clock so it is visible on the lock-screen and while peeking, preferably only in between screens and while peeking but I guess the estate is already taken or is it possible to have it not show in the specific area below the clock but while pulling/peeking?

FYI this has already 78 votes at the time of writing... https://together.jolla.com/question/12694/display-current-date-below-time-in-lock-screen/

I don't understand your answer; first you say it is ok as it is (no date on Lock screen) and then you say you want to have it on Lock-screen/peeking under the tome. The latter is the nost voted Answer here already, so why don't you just vote it ;)

foss4ever ( 2014-01-24 16:46:39 +0300 )edit

I think, chemist meant it should be configurable.

Venty ( 2014-01-24 16:59:08 +0300 )edit

give me the choice to not have it visible! i dont need it and leave it in the pulley - a good place to hide stuff you dont need visible always is between screens and in the pulley (see calendar).

chemist ( 2014-01-28 05:39:47 +0300 )edit

@chemist If you have a suggestion that is different from the one that is written in your answer above and also not an answer already it would be great to add this suggestion as a new answer. As far as I understood you want the date be visible 1. in the pulley, 2. in the area that is visible while peeking and 3. _not_ in the lock screen?

jukey ( 2014-01-30 08:21:21 +0300 )edit

@jukey yes but there is no place left but below the clock for it, it could be on the other hand below the clock while peeking and not on the lock-screen visible - I add that to my answer.

Edit: This answer is about having the date on the lock screen and event screen

Original answer: why not put it in a screen that is always accessible with a flick i.e. the notifications screen?

lock screen should have date and time not just in the pulley menu.

So in your opinion the date should be shown in th so called "status area" between lock screen and home screen? Did I understand you correct? In this case this case I would like you to edit you answer or let me do. Regarding your last sentence "lock screen should have date and time": Is this in addition to the status area? If not please remove it and vote for the answer that is there already. :)

jukey ( 2014-01-22 12:45:43 +0300 )edit

I think he is refering to the Events feed (accessible by swipe-up gesture from anywhere).

foss4ever ( 2014-01-22 12:49:57 +0300 )edit

Do you mean both in lock screen and in - actually always on top of - events feed? In that case I agree

Tanghus ( 2014-01-22 14:43:38 +0300 )edit

Isn't status area actually partly same as the lock screen i.e. when swipe up to open home screen you will slide through the status area containing the clock (visible on lock screen always) and other indicators.

What is missing is the current date, which should located e.g. under the time. This way it would be visible in the lock screen, but also via side peek either left, right or top peek what is actually more important.

It is possible to peek the status screen e.g. while i am writing this the time in Finland is 19.02, but as the date is not there in the status screen I would need to return to the lock screen to check the date.

The peek works from all the running applications and event notification page.

Due to the peek function, the status info actually shouts the current date to be shown with time.

Update: If the peek swipe is not familiar, it is done the same way as any Left or Right swipe, instead of releasing your finger keep it pressed against the display. This way you can always slide your finger back and continue to usage of the application you were using before the peek action.

Kari ( 2014-01-22 19:06:35 +0300 )edit

Yes exactly, and we always return to the same root cause of this problem; because date is not shown akways with time we invent all these ways to have shown. If date goes where-ever time goes, this peek function works ok, and lock-screen shows date with time (as in the other Answer here)

How is this different than what's answered here already (except that it has a fancy mock-up photo)?

foss4ever ( 2014-01-28 19:37:44 +0300 )edit

And, why does it have 'whatever' on the top?

foss4ever ( 2014-01-28 19:39:01 +0300 )edit

I just answered the first question. Nothing more nothing less. As for the whatever thing its just that i didn't want to put the name of a telecom company there. It's just a mock up. I could have put Vodafone or anything else.

Also February will not have 31 days in 2022. :P

Duplicate of Display current date below time in lock screen ?

I think the question you mentioned is just one possible answer to the question asked here. Therefore it would be great If this question could be transferred as an answer to the question here.

jukey ( 2014-01-22 11:42:43 +0300 )edit

This question doesn't duplicate that; this is abt where do we wnt to have it. I gave my answer with much detail cause thats where I want to have it and formatted as given by locale or formatting string.

foss4ever ( 2014-01-22 11:49:06 +0300 )edit

Are we trying to split hairs twice here? You are suggesting that it goes to the lockscreen, that time and date should be together, but you think that this is not a duplicate of "current date below time in lock screen"? This is just a waste of bandwith and AskBot space, (to which this comment contributes further...)

the_mgt ( 2014-01-22 11:59:55 +0300 )edit

I didn't ask this question, I just gave an answer to a question that hadn't been asked before. Sorry if my opinion is the similar to your question (even if you don't mention the formatting) - and I have also voted for your question). What if I link to your question in my Answer does it help?

foss4ever ( 2014-01-22 12:18:54 +0300 )edit

@jjaone: It is not even my question and I do appreciate your answer. I just don't get why every problem needs 2-3 questions to view it from different angles. Makes a mess and it is harder for the Jolla team to track the issues.

i mean 1. where ever you see date and time currently - keep that. don't change it. 2. in addition to #1, insert the current date and time into the events feed screen (thanks for correcting me - it is not notifications screen). 3. in lock screen, please insert the date in addition to the time that is currently displayed.

one more thing to add please make it a full date string i.e. day + date + month (year is optional).
