Set firefox(or any app) as default browser [duplicate]

I tried to set firefox as a default browser for all applications (not just android ones) with https://openrepos.net/content/llelectronics/mimer but it does not seem to work. Any link opened from the mail or tweetian will open the default SF browser, not firefox. Is there a way to achieve what I'm trying to do ?

Then leave a message with llelectronics on his repo, as it is a 3rd party application which is not a Jolla application.

My question is more about why can't we do this in the settings menu, why is there a need for an app for such (seemingly) simple things ? Can't we have those options by default in SF os?

While Mimer isn't working, is there a way of setting this by maually editing a file?
I tried adding
text/html=apkd_launcher_org_mozilla_firefox-org_mozilla_gecko_LauncherActivity.desktop
but to no effect.
It's links from native apps like email I want to open in Firefox.

This is not an answer and in that question from 2013 you linked there is no solution either!
