Skipping tutorial should disable hints

I recently reflashed my Sailfish X on Sony Xperia X, and as I've familiar with the OS, I skipped the tutorial using the corner taps. However, at least in Mail application and events view, the OS persistently offer me hints (e.g. Swipe ledt for folders). Skipping the tutorial should disable the hints, too, but it does not. The hints get very quickly very annoying, and I seem not to be able to get rid of them by just following the instructions.

  1. How do I disable the hints in various apps and places? Answered!
  2. Could the tutorial also disable the hints in the future? Unanswered so far - I made this the main issue and a reature request now.

Thank you.

Good point. Normally the hints should disappear after you've seen them two or three times.

It shouldn't. The tutorial makes you familiar with the basic gestures you need to know to work with the OS as a whole. You can skip those if you already worked with SFOS. Hints within an app are a completely different matter. They tell you how this specific app works. Totally different thing.

Mail is a separately installed application, fair enough, but still Jolla made. Events view hints are part of core Jolla OS, and those hints should be disabled. If you are such a user that you know how to skip the tutorial, you don't need the hints either.

I remember that there was an answer for this question on tjc or tmo and was answered by @coderus (if I remember correcltly). There is a way to do that in terminal.

As per the link below, from @coderus as recalled by @atlochowski

https://together.jolla.com/question/145460/operation-hints/

Edit (by Direc): Here are the commands from the answer above:

dconf write /desktop/lipstick-jolla-home/events_view_close_hint_count 4
dconf write /sailfish/messages/access_contact_card_hint_count 4
dconf write /sailfish/camera/camera_roll_hint_count 4
dconf write /sailfish/calculator/scientific_calculator_hint_count 4
dconf write /sailfish/store/download_upgrade_hint_count 4
dconf write /sailfish/gallery/split_view_back_hint_count 4
dconf write /sailfish/calendar/change_month_hint_count 4
dconf write /sailfish/accounts/settings_autosave_hint_count 4
dconf write /sailfish/voicecall/incoming_call_hint_count 4
dconf write /sailfish/voicecall/init_call_hint_count 4
dconf write /sailfish/email/folder_access_hint_count 4

Edit (by Edz): Additional dconf writes not listed originally by coderus, as follows;

dconf write /sailfish/store/categories_attached_page_hint_count 4
dconf write /sailfish/camera/camera_mode_hint_count 4
dconf write /sailfish/gallery/vertical_page_back_hint 4
dconf write /sailfish/people/use_count 4
dconf write /sailfish/maps/explore_map_hint_count 4

I got the above by doing the following in terminal;

dconf dump / > /home/nemo/dconf-dump.txt

Thank you! Both @Edz and @coderus

Edit: It works - Calculator, which I just now started for the first time, didn't show me any hints.

It seems to me that even going through the tutorial does not disable the hints - been two days since reflash of F5122 and I'm still seeing the same hints all over again - is there a setting to disable these?

This is not an answer.

If you go through the tutorial, it is only logical to show other hints. If you, however, use special knowledge (corner taps) to bypass the tutorial, then and only then the hints, in my opinion, should be bypassed.

Direc: That's not logical. You don't know the corner taps because you have "special knowledge" but because you read about it on the internet. That doesn't mean help within an app you download afterwards isn't highly appreciated.

I restrict this question to only core Sailfish OS apps, and all Jolla made apps (including Mail). In my logic skipping the tutorial indicates that one knows the OS already so well, that no further hints from Jolla is necessary.

Third party software, of course, should not respect the tutorial skip, but instead have their own hints and ways to handle them.

Yes, the OP should make it a feature request so that cancelling tutorial does also cancel hints.
