As the base of entries in together.jolla.com grows fast, there are more and more duplicate entries as users don't properly search existing base.

Add "mark as duplicate" function to together.jolla.com with field to enter referenced existing entry

If you close the question you have the option to mark it as duplicate

@Tanghus: does not help, as this can only be done by author ....

@Manankanchu Once you have enough karma you can close posts created by other people

Rephrasing comments above as an anwer:

If you close the question, you can mark it as duplicate. though you do need enough karma to close posts created by other people.

It would be better to inform author that a question us a duplicate (in case author hasn't noticed) and let other close it based in this info. So marking a question as duplicate (by anyone) should be enabled. Also the number dupes still keeps growing if they disappear only by closing them.

@jjaone people can still comment if they think it's duplicate... however, i recently saw a duplicate one and it has no mention of which one is the duplicate, which is a more important issue... there's no use in marking duplicate if you don't link to the earlier one

Yes sure the duplicate "tag" should point to the question of which dupe it is ;) I was just trying to explain that it is good to immediately mark a question duplicate, when noticed, bu special tag, and let the author close it, rather than go and close it right-away (by someone else than author).

There are 2 issues: while somebody with big enough karma can think the question is duplicate and closing it, it can be false statement. Also there was already cases when earlier (same) questions was closed as duplicates (by author of the new question to gain karma?)

@dez commenting tool can be used also in closed questions. So, if false statement leads closing, users can continue commenting and asking re-opening.

As askbot is open source and the sailors already have enough on their hands, I will suggest opening an issue or even better a pull request - at the askbot github repo
