Reaching edge when scrolling zoomed in picture sometime trigger switch to next picture

When scrolling a zoomed picture the scrolling stops and the picture is dimmed when the edge is reached. If I release and pull again it starts to transition a switch to the next picture, which is expected. But sometimes I change my mind and don't want to switch picture, or that I accidentally triggered the transition, and I pull back the zoomed in picture. This sometimes triggers a switch to the picture on the other side.

To recreate:

  1. zoom a picture in gallery
  2. scroll to left edge
  3. pull through so that the picture to the left starts to show
  4. undo the pull and go back to the zoomed picture

Expected result: stay on the zoomed picture Actual result: gallery switches to picture to the right (not always, but at a high ratio enough to be relevant)

The behavior of activating the opposing side can also be seen in the new dismiss gesture in the gallery. If I, in a zoomed in state, reach the bottom (or top) edge and then do a push gesture the transition to go back to overview starts. If i switch direction of the push gesture the transition is kept and continues on the other side, even though there's content to scroll that way, i.e. as long as I keep my finger on the screen I'm in the "go back" transition state and cannot scroll content. In the bug I describe above I'm stuck at one edge (left or right) and don't expect to go to next picture, since there's no hint.
