This does not work for me. I am trying on the original Jolla phone from version 2.1.4.14. Please can you confirm if it should work on this device too? I’ve used the Sailfish utilities to rebuild the app registry too. I still get the error message Problem with store: could not determine size of update. Any guidance/support gratefully appreciated. Regards, Adrian

You did also try pkcon refresh?

Thanks for responding Aspergerguy. Much appreciated. I haven’t done it from the command line, but I assumed that the sailfish utility to rebuild app registry executes pkcon. Is that a bad assumption?

A search with "size update" gave me two results: https://together.jolla.com/question/160068/unable-to-determine-size-of-update-proceed-wait-fix/ and https://together.jolla.com/question/175057/jolla1-update-to-kymijoki-download-fails-jolla-shop-problem-cannot-determine-the-size-of-the-update/. Did you see those and tried the answers?

Thanks Rgrnetalk. I’ll have to give this a try. Just seen the announcement for sailfish 3 and want to make sure I’m ready for that too. I’ve not used putty terminals and ssh to connect to my jolla for ages, so was trying to avoid that kerfuffle, but will spend a bit of time later this week and let you know how I get on. Thanks again for taking the time to respond. Regards, Adrian

I wasn’t able to fix this issue directly. I wasn’t able to turn on developer mode as this requires some additional software packages from the store and I’d get the same error message problem with store........

I tried a reset, but the phone was still unstable, so in the end I had to go into recovery mode and return to factory settings. Fortunately I had a relatively recent back up, that wasn’t restored without adventure, but I got my Jolla 1 back now. Looking forward to v 3.0 & tablet refund so I can get my Sony device.

Thanks to community for all their support and articles and videos. Love the determination to provide a viable alternative to the duopoly.

Happy sailing.

For those stumbling on the same error, in my case the btrfs filesystem was full. The [Jolla 1] phone appeared "glitchy" in general when newly created files were involved. (Sending screenshots or photos through whatsapp, mail attachments, partial theme changes on ambience change.)

Downloading the update showed the "could not determine size of update" '# pkcon refresh' showed "Fatal error: Cannot write file '/var/tmp/AP_0x...../repomd.xml'

https://together.jolla.com/question/30822/root-and-home-disks-full-and-causing-various-problems/ fixed it for me.
