In the mean time FingerTerm supports a gui solution for changing the keyboard layout.

But it is always nice, to know some details. So the following information is still valueable:

cd ~/.config/FingerTerm
curl -O https://raw.github.com/nemomobile/fingerterm/master/data/german.layout

edit the file settings.ini and change the line keyboardLayout:

keyboardLayout=german

restart fingerterm.

URL for keyboardLayout=french according to this post: https://raw.github.com/nemomobile/fingerterm/master/data/french.layout

Great initiative. Any plans on other layouts, like, let's say (innocently), French? :>

Ask the fingerterm developers - this is the original code I have the layout from (so unvote if you thought I wrote the code...) https://github.com/nemomobile/fingerterm/tree/master/data

Thanks. I'm not gonna unvote, your contribution is valuable! I had checked that URL to see what alternate layouts were available, and saw that the German layout was recently added (hence my question), but unfortunately there are not many at the moment.

Good move!

@Kabouik: The *.layout files are just ASCII files. It should not be too difficult to adapt them to another country layout.

With Jolla version 1.0.8.21 (Tahkalampi) (shipping FingerTerm 1.0.3) you can change the layout in FingerTerm GUI:

  1. start FingerTerm
  2. tap the config icon in the upper right corner
  3. scroll down to VKB layout...
  4. tap the select button behind your desired keyboard layout => Keyboard Layout changed

I switching from english to german layout, I had to restart FingerTerm. The german layout seems to be wider and didn't fit on screen after changing. After a restart of FingerTerm, everything is fine.

There is a new HOWTO here concerning French layout. Maybe you could edit your HOWTO to made it compatible with many languages, and convert it to wiki, else everyone could contribute.
