Often, maybe 40-50% of the times, when I click a link in an email or sms the native browser opens the last viewed browser tab instead of the clicked link.

I've got to swipe back and click again and most of the times it works at the 2nd click, sometimes I enter the right page first at the 3d click.

Does it happens to anyone else? To me it seems like a bug, but i'm a bit confused cause I can't find anything about it here at together.

I have seen this. Happens randomly. Like also whether browser opens a new tab / window when opening eg. facebook trough notification seems to be completely random.

hm I, and the other two, seems to have answered a different question?

question: "links doesn't open, I'm seeing the previous web page"

all answers: "question is 'links opens over the last viewed web page"

Now I'm confused ...

Sorry for not being here at together for a while. I haven't seen the issue since update to 1.0.3.8.

veskuhs comment to phle's answer seems to answer the issue "links opens over the last viewed web page".

It happens to me every time. Sailfish 1.0.3.8.

So far I experienced this when selecting "open in browser" a rss news in tidings.

  1. the Jolla browser has been closed with N tabs open (swipe down), N > 1
  2. select "open in browser" pulley on a rss news in Tidings
  3. the browser opens the news in the Nth tab, not in a new one

the new link should be opened in a new tab. Firefox on desktop has the default behavior on open a link in new tab (when not running) since many years.

EDIT: I'm referring to Jolla default browser, edited the answer to reflect it better

I can confirm that too. Super painful if the last tab was some big download. I have at least 4 Opera .apks now. ;-)

We have changed this. Files will not be downloaded again in restart of browser.

Hm?

My experience this far is that

  • I either have the Jolla Browser open (this includes when it's minimised as a cover),
and when clicking a link, the link opens in a new tab

  • or I don't have the Jolla Browser open,
and when clicking a link, the link opens in the last tab

    that is:
    - not minimised as a cover (not even "off Home screen", if I already have > 9 covers on my Home screen)
    - if all tabs were closed (pressed the X's in the tab view) prior to closing (swipe down) the Browser, my link will open in a new tab
    - if I had one or more tabs opened when closing (swipe down) the Browser, the link I clicked will open in the last tab I had open - "on top" of that tab's web page.

Personally, I consider this a feature, not a bug - even though it took a while before I "got it".

This will change in upcoming update, clicking a link will always open the link into a new tab unless there is already a tab open with exact same link in it. In that case the tab and browser are just brought to foreground.

This looks like it's very close to being a duplicate of: https://together.jolla.com/question/12270/bug-opening-a-link-while-browser-is-in-tab-selection-view-duplicates-the-last-opened-tab/
