So, where do I *get* Sailfish? [answered]

I realize that this is the most basic of questions, but as a newcomer I've not been able to find the answer on my own and if there's some fairly basic document, as I supposed there would be, I couldn't find it.

I've been using the community edition of SFOS on my Gemini device and am about to pull the trigger on an Xperia X, solely to have a phone that runs Sailfish. My thought is to get the community edition before springing $58 for the Jolla Sailfish X. Before ordering the phone, though, I figured I'd make sure that there is a place where I can download the correct image as well as the tools (for Linux) to flash it onto the phone. I've been at it, off and on, for a couple of days, but no joy. I got the image for the Gemini from Planet Computers, makers of the Gemini.

While I'm here, another side question. I've been told that the non-Jolla repo of applications several community-written programs that allow use of at least some Android applications under Sailfish, but that some of them are quite old. Do any of them still work? I need a ProtonMail application, and apparently the only path to that on Sailfish, for now, is via the Android application.

Though before worrying about that, I need to find Sailfish itself! Any help appreciated.

Are you aware that you can only order from Europe? You will have to use a VPN from some European country if you are outside. Otherwise, you can have someone in Europe you trust purchase it for you.

Thanks, everybody. With confidence gained from your answers (how do I mark this question as answered?) I've just ordered an Xperia X, and will put Sailfish on it forthwith.

Though I suppose I should issue this caution: I began computing using DR-DOS, followed by OS/2, then Caldera Linux; my tablets ran WebOS and Blackberry Playbook OS; and my phones heretofore have run the old Blackberry OS and then BB 10, so it seems as if my loving something is its kiss of death!

Simply select [ X close ] at the bottom of your original question and select a reason for closing "An answer was accepted" would do the job or whatever you choose.

@depscribe As with the kiss of death: same here. Jolla seems the only "brand" that barely survived my purchasing habits -- so far.

I'd say this has more to do with very special needs and niche platform affinity. Same for me. Started with an Ericsson R380s (OS/2 as well), continued with SonyEricsson's P800, P900, M600 got a Nokia E71 afterwards the N9 then Jolla. Now on Sony Xperia X Compact with SFOS community build. SFOS lasts for the longest of these niche systems so far. That's why I really hope that they will succeed.

@naytsyrhcNiche platform is my second name ... Had an ARM based desktop a couple of decades ago, running RISC OS, and was working on a MIPS machine running RISC/OS, being a completely different breed. Both hardware manufacturers soon died. The demise of webOS led me to Jolla. I'm not entirely convinced they'll make it, but there's hope.

Kiss of death :

Hahaha, been mostly through the same evolution as you (PalmOS, Palm /HP's webOS, now Jolla's Sailfish OS).
