Sony Xperia XZ premium with SailfishOS any chance soon!?
As much as I like my Xperia X with SFOS and believe it was a wise decision of Jolla to choose this device for SailfishX, a premium-like device would be a great showcase of the capabilities of SFOS! The Sony Xperia XZ premium is included in Sony's Open Devices Program. Also binaries are available, and I do not see any reason why one would not be able to flash SailfishX on it. Why would Jolla not be able to modify the flash script and make the flashing to the XZ premium official? I'm happy to pay for a licence!
The reason why I like this phone so much and looking forward to have SFOS on it is, because I got one which was broken and I was able to fix it. The screen was broken (price of an replacement was around 50€) and while having had this phone open, I noticed that the battery could be also easily be changed and the charging port (usb-c) as well. Besides the nice aluminium frame and enclosure, this beast of phone has the best screen ever seen in a phone with the highest pixel density, e.g. twice as much than the retina display of iphone. Also, it has decent amount of RAM and is waterproof to some extend. However, to sum this up: it's a incredible nice piece of hardware (think of an upgrade to the Xperia X), one year newer than Xperia X which is currently also getting affordable (prices between 500..400€) due to the fact that the Xperia XZ2 premium is currently cannibalizing its predecessor. My thoughts are not a duplicate of this thread https://together.jolla.com/question/162256/how-this-discontinuation-of-sony-xperia-x-change-sailfish-os-situation-are-you-for-more-sony-sailfish-devices/ but I noticed in other channels that I'm not alone with my "request"! I would like to hear your opinions about this matter. Cheers, Marti
BTW, I did flash this phone with AOSP i.e. CarbonROM OS and I'm aware of loosing some functionaries but I know how to get all of it back ;-) Still, having SFOS on it would be a dream come true! One obstacle might be that after opening the boot-loader, Sony allows not to safe camera images. They are saved instead as green images at least in Android. However, this can be fixed by xperifix.com or see https://forum.xda-developers.com/xz-premium/how-to/tip-camera-fix-unlocked-rooted-sony-t3647333.
