Is my Xperia X really really dead? What else to try? [answered]

Short: Xperia X is off and doesn't react to anything. When I press the power button: no vibration, no LED, dead screen. When I put it on the charger: nothing. When I try to enter recovery mode: blue LED never comes on. - I've had boot problems a few months ago caused by an SD card (different symptoms, but still), so I tried to remove SIM and SD card... doesn't help.

Long: I was typing a text message when the phone suddenly froze. I could see the last letter I had typed still highlighted on the keyboard, but no gesture would work, the phone didn't react to the power button. Eventually the screen went black and the red LED started flashing. I left it like that hoping it would recover. A few minutes later when I looked at it the LED was off and the phone was back to normal (or so it seemed). I continued typing my text message and sent it. As I didn't receive an answer (although I knew the other person was waiting for it, ready to reply), I thought a re-boot might be a good idea. Phone shut down almost normally - I saw the "bye" screen but I felt the red LED was on quite a bit longer than it should. After that, I wasn't able to switch it on again.

There's nothing I've done before, like install any new software or such. Also, there are no patches installed on my phone. The only things that come to my mind are: The uptime must have been pretty long for my standards. I tend to switch it off every now and then, but I guess it's been on now for 2-3 weeks. Plus, I cannot really tell the state of the battery when all this happened. It was ~40%-50% or so a few hours before when I checked to see if I should charge it before going out, but if anything right before I shut it down would have caused a sudden battery drain, I wouldn't have noticed because I just didn't think of re-checking.

Any idea what the most likely reason could be? Something that could be fixed? Or is it gone for good without recovery mode working? :(

I've had similar experience with Xperia phines on Android, and one thing I've discovered is that results will vary depending on specific chargers, cables, and power sources. If you have oem cable, you're best off, and try different things, lije plug into a wall charger while holding power button, or try the same into the computer, etc...

There are muliple things to try to recover the phone on XDA - you will most likely loose whatever data is on the phone, so I would first try with different USB ports, cables and also different PC to get it started. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849170

Have you tried to hold "power" + "volume down" (or "volume up", I don't remember exactly) for several seconds? It's like hardware reset. Once I found my Xperia X unresponsive to anything, nor buttons, nor touchscreen worked, screen was black with backlight off, no reaction to charger. This reset procedure helped.

Wow - it actually was that simple! Press and hold Power plus Vol+ for a few seconds until the phone vibrates... It came back to life! Thank you very much!

Note: USB cable must be unplugged when doing this reset thing.

Xperia X also played dead here* Reset combination above re-started the device (thank you, butler, from 2020).

*(at something random like Top Menu > Flight Mode)
