XperiaX 2.2.1.18: Fingerprint reader not working

Hi sailors, unfortunately I can't unlock my XperiaX any more using the fingerprint reader. This problem occured some weeks ago for the first time and is still present after the update to 2.2.1.18. According to the CSD tool the fingerprint reader works fine. Adding fingerprints is possible, too. But if I want to unlock the device using the fingerprint reader, nothing happens. Any idea what could be the reason?

For me it still works on 2.2.1.18 (just writing this, to show it's no general bug).

So your finger is not recogniced or doesnt it scan your finger at all on lock screen (no vibra feedback?).

There is no feedback at all, just as the fingerprint reader would be dead. Only very sporadic there is a feedback (vibration) but that comes with the error "adjust your grip / fingerprint not recognized". Maybe there is something like a fingerprint daemon running in the background which is not the case on my phone?

Yes, my fingerprint is scanned very well. But when the fingerprint reader is used, also my wife can unlock the device in addition to me. : o) So I suppose, that the fingerprint scanning does not work as it should.

I started having the exact same issues 2 days ago (before upgrading), at one point it was working again for a few hours and after a reboot and the update it stopped working correctly again

It works fine for me, before/after the update. But if it ever stops working I'll keep you posted.

What the csd test does is: It starts fingerprint enrollment process and cancels when 1st "good fingerprint sample acquired" notification from underlying hal is received -> Successful csd fingerprint test basically means that all pieces in the sw stack are in place and the scanner hw is functioning.

The fact that you can succesfully enroll fingerprints indicates that in theory everything should be just fine.

Only very sporadic there is a feedback (vibration) but that comes with the error "adjust your grip / fingerprint not recognized"

And this basically means that identification operation is running, but scanner is getting low quality samples or ones that do not match any enrolled templates - of which the latter could mean sub-optimal samples were used for the enrollment itself (e.g. you easily hold the device in different manner during enrollment vs when just using it to identify -> the part of finger you actually use might not be covered).

Also my observation has been that xperia x fingerprint scanner is really sensitive to skin moisture, occasionally I need to "dry" my finger by touching cloth or something to get it to register.

Some hints at comments under https://together.jolla.com/question/184549/inconvenience-22029-fingerprint-unlock-only-works-on-lockscreen/?answer=185317#post-id-185317 - look for "The difficult part is probably going to be".

Ihad this problem too. I do not know the reason for it, but rebooting phone helped. After that sensor has recognized fingerprints. Perhaps we should reboot phone every week to avoid problems.

My fingerprint reader also works fine according to CSD test but it is very dificult to configure it and even harder to unlock the device. I turned it off until something changes

PS: On Android 8.0 it worked amazingly well
