Within a 2nd swipe domain there could be available two "hovermode-pulleys" from either side, universally available and completely customizable. Basic Sailfish-integrated tools could be : enhanced clipboard, screencapture, navigation arrows, Bluetooth device pairing, network printing, etc. ... 3rd-party tools / utilities could be added as desired or shortcut-definitions to quickly share or upload to a cloud location for example. All "swipe-domains" should co-rotate with screen-orientation ( portrait / landscape view ), and the toolsets will be available across all open apps in an overlay manner. The pulleys automatically retract after functional execution.

I really like this idea, so much potential... with context-sensitive "hovermode pulleys" you could add special characters pulleys (emoji, language-dependent special letter variants etc.) on virtual keyboards, a lot more control options on browser windows, quick(er) settings switchers for camera...

One issue to consider is mis-swipes from missing the invisible cutoff point. Maybe not a big deal, but worth considering. Perhaps in bottom zone, have the buttons max half width, and if user continues to drag after pulling buttons out, normal operation is done (so long swipe in any zone is same)

The idea is kewl, but the consistency is lost on the way - sortof. Just my 2 c. The consistency of the border, that is. Misswipes will happen more easily.

.... well a hovered "Swiss army knife" toolset available at hand whenever required without choosing & shifting across the main pulleys of each app can't be wrong IMHO ;) ..... e.g. I don't remember misswiping the little hover-pulley on the N900. If you don't want it, you let collapse by itself or swipe it off. I'd still desire this kind of handy feature a lot :))
