Improve notification preview visual design

While nearly all other Sailfish components are well polished and visually delightful, notification preview boxes have remained something of an ugly duckling that nobody wants to give tender loving care to.

I highly doubt this awkward, out of place, non-symmetrical box thing is the best our favorite OS nordic designers can come up with:

i need help!

Research shows, community is already trying to improve things on their own: https://openrepos.net/content/ingvix/patch-improved-notification-preview

maybe better

But I'm not sure why external "OS patch" solutions need to be engaged just to get a visually polished notification preview box. Considering the amount of displays this element gets over phone/OS usage lifecycle, it probably should get more attention than it has thus far. We're approaching 2019, after all, and it' s not like the competition for market share is decreasing.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Tyvm.

In many apps (for example HereWeGo) the notification appears right above the search bar or navigation right when you tap it. So when you want to search for a location in HereWeGo you accidentally tap "Stay fresh, there's a new map, get it now" and that brings you to map download. Very annoying.

True, but at least you can swipe the notification away now.

I think the community provided patch should be merged into Jolla branch and the developer should be rewarded by them. I thinks this should be done with quite a few patches available.

Not only does the notification cover parts of apps, it does also cover the status bar, which makes it impossible to see time or battery status when a notification is showing. I don’t see a good way to redesign the notification to fix this, but I really do think the old sfos1 status/lock screen would remedy this.

OT: I still think the “new” status bar is a bad idea, since it’s not global. Had it been always visible, even with an app active, it might have a place, but now you need to peek to see it and then the old status area was bigger and easier to see (I guess that’s why there’s a patch to enlarge the new status bar).
