I'm using Blackberry OS 10 phones for 4 years, and it has the best onscreen keyboard I ever used. The main point of this keyboard, is the suggestion words appearing not on the top of the keyboard, but above the next letter. You can continue typing the word or you can just swipe up, and the word is typed. Like on the picture below. It very fast intuitive typing method. The feature request is realize this keyboard in SFOS.image description

Missing that keyboard. None of the current popular os has that feature.

I love that keyboard too but I dont think there will be one for SFOS. Sadly! :(

Why not? You see patent problems?

There are potential patent problems. It might not affect Europe as officially there are no software patent and I would consider this a software patent. Though still Jolla might be better off not trying to implement that feature just to be sure not to get sued.

This keyboard already has existed for years and nobody has implemented it in another rom/OS. I think you can install it with some other BB services on Android - if I am not mistaken.

I am sure it is protected by BB, therefore I dont think Jolla will touch it and I dont think the communtiy will build it.

The SFOS keyboards are written in QML, there many examples for custom keyboards on the openrepos (OKBoard for e.g.) The word prediction results (both from the official Xt9 and the community predictors: chewing, presage) are also exposed to QML in a pretty documented way.

So technically it would not be too hard to implement such a keyboard if there is a huge demand for it.

I think if somebody would build it, demand would rise in no time, because its 5 times better than those Sailfish has at the moment.

Sad to say, you were right. It's patent protected technology.
Here is the patent: Google patents
